I couldn't find any videos on youtube that did the sound of the Dino engine justice, so I had a friend video during a recent drive in mine.

Here's the link. What do you think?

It's great, and makes me all the more anxious to get my car and the good weather back.
Yours just suffers by comparison to the Ferrari en Paris video, which is the best thing I have ever seen/heard in my entire life. It makes me almost pass out with joy. I'm sure you've all seen it. If you haven't, go to this link NOW, and your life will never be the same.

nice clip, and i like the road and the clicking of the gate as you shift.

what modification is there to your engine cover and why?

I think the car looks better without the wipers, and of course I don't drive it if there's any chance I could get caught in the rain.

The engine has the intake manifold from a Stratos and 40 IDF carbs, both of which are taller than the stock items. So extra space had to be created somehow. The history I got from the previous owner was that this mod had been done in Italy before it was brought over in the mid-'70's, the "hat" you see being a fiberglass piece of the same shape as the raised portion of the engine cover but raised enough to clear the air cleaner element.

The advantages are that the car doesn't lose power from fuel starvation in a long left turn and it sounds cool, as you can hear the induction roar better.

I'm afraid I'm going to have keep the location of this road to myself. Not to be unfriendly, but I'm fearful of it becoming a well-known and popular place for people to exercise their cars, which would lead to complaints by the locals, which would lead to Officer Friendly staking a representative there to cite everyone going 1 mph over the limit, etc, etc.
    Sorry.

Thanks for that. I never heard a Dino sound that good, except for mine, live. Question! What was your shift point? Sounds more like 6,000 than 7,500. Mine gets an "edge" up around 7,000 and really sings. Also gear whine is a little louder than mine except in 3rd and 4th. Wonder what gears you were in. Good miking, good hold on the camera. Looks like you and your cameraman were having a blast. Not in the Santa Monica mountains.

Definitely fun to watch. Do another one next time you're not in the Santa Monica Mountains ;)

Do you ever take your car up the Angeles Crest Hwy.? Different from the road in the video, more open, with fast, sweeping, mostly 3rd gear curves. Nice scenery too. You just need to be in La Canada at first light to avoid the slow traffic and kamikaze bikers. That road is one of the things I miss most about SoCal...

That Paris clip is incredible. One can only hope that he had assistants/accomplices at those intersections with red lights. But you're right life won't be the same. Hopefully in inspires some lucid dreams.

You're right, John. I wasn't watching the tach, but by habit I typically shift in the low to mid-6's out of deference to the age of the car.

This is mainly a second gear road, which I like. At those speeds you can pretty much stop on a dime in this car, so risk is minimal.

Thanks for the tip, Dan. I have been on ACH, but not for many years. Maybe I should check it out again!

On a well tuned, maintained and regularly exercised engine, I don't see why one should not be able to go to redline occasionally. I think it's more important to be smooth with these old babies than to hold them back.

Gleggy (another Fchat member and former Dino owner) and I did this old analog video recording about 10 years ago. Not too much sounds better than a Dino at full noise........
