Well, it's that time. I'm making a list of colleges to check out and apply to. UC Berkeley University of Michigan University of Texas Indiana University Miami University - Ohio Fordham University American University Has anyone gone to these? Or knows the areas well? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you know what you'd like to study or major in? That could help focus your list. If you're completely undecided (which is perfectly fine), then of your list I would pick Michigan. Very good all around school, they're ranked well in just about every category. I've got a lot of friends there now and they all love it. It would help to know just what you're looking for though--location, social life, academics, etc. all factor into making the right choice.
Fordham is a great school. I know it very well. I was gonna go there if it wasnt for some factors (g/f at the time was going there and i didnt want to go to the same school). Great kids there, even though you are in the Bronx, it doesnt feel like it. The campus is like it's on world in the middle of the bronx. I go to school a couple train stops away. Hey our academics are right up there as well thank you. Besides you should only party as hard as you study so I guess that means everyone here studies alot.
I go to UNLV here in Las Vegas. The most fun you will ever have and you will get an education outside of the classroom that IMO is priceless and doesn't exist anywhere else.
I'm looking to major in Business, with an eventual focus in Real Estate. All the colleges I picked were on the list of the top undergrad business schools by Business Week. Fordham is great because I want to be near NYC, but the location for me is less than favorable than their Lincoln Center campus. UT would be great just for a change of climate and location, plus the fact that the tuition is a lot lower than Fordham. Same with my other choices except American.
UNLV is great for both Business and R/E... they have HUGE projects getting built left and right here. I am writing my term paper now on the direction of Las Vegas development in the future.
Berkeley. The cheapest, and most presitgious, of the bunch. Honestly, a 4-year doesn't do a whole lot anymore, so in order to pack the biggest punch on your resume, you want the best names. A bit shallow, but it's how the world works. Yes, it's a bastion of liberal craziness. But so is every other college campus, and if you're a conservative, it will do wonders to your critical thinking and analysis skills, because you'll be challenged to defend your views, directly or indirectly, on a daily basis. This is the primary reason why liberal viewpoints will languish in the next decade...very, very few liberal people ever find their views challenged, and as such, they have a very poor logical foundation on which they stand. This is not to say that liberal views are wrong (I'm a conservative, but I value a balance of left and right in society), but it is to say that very few liberals can back up their convictions with logic or reason, because so few have any experience expressing their views beyond agreeing with their professors or screaming down dissent. Kind of sad, and very bad for America. So, yeah, go to Berkeley. It is a phenominally beautiful campus, and it's only $7k a year (once you are a Cali resident).
Dont bother with the Lincoln Center campus, stick with Rose Hill. You will learn to love the bronx area. The bars are great. Two words....Arthur Avenue. Hot chicks.
