    I am watching Speed channel right now at 1am CST. they are running an F1 race (I thought it was the qualifying, but it seems more like a real race...but there is NO CROWD!) Am I missing something? Is qulifying a whole race? Never seen this before....

    If you're watching at 1am cst you are watching either the very end of practice or the beginning of Q3. Practice allows as many cars on the grid as the teams like. Q3 is the first qualifying session and it includes all the cars trying to get the top 16 times of that 15 minute session so that they can move on to the next session.
