The St. Bernard don't look real happy with the newcomer! But they usually take a while to get used to it. :)

Nice! I'd say 50 pounds of dog food per week should do it!

We had a few Great Dane's growing up, the last time I played with one, I was about 6 and while "taking it for a walk" in our back yard, I was dragged from the deck to fence to deck and over the walkway, that's when I let go.

When I was 11, I got a pellet gun for my birthday and promptly shot the dog, I was then promptly attacked by the dog then promptly attacked by my father.

When I was 16, I got a used car and promptly hit the dog at about 20 kph with the front fender. Then I was promptly hit in the face at about 80 kph with a right hook.

I know make dry dog food for Iams.

Great looking dogs! I love St. Bernards. Great Danes are amazing to see them with their backs so tall. Congrats! Happy Birthday, too!

That is to pin her ears up. We got her like that. We'll remove the cup in a week or so.

Very strange post, even a little disturbing.

Are you saying you hate Great Danes because one dragged you around when you were 6? You then spent subsequent years trying to kill this dog? Perhaps someone should not have allowed you to handle a dog that big at such a young age. Perhaps there are deeper issues there.

Jeffrey Dahmer started out by killing animals.

    It was a joke.

    Read the last line.

Nice pair of dogs, they'll take up a lotta room when they play.

Does anyone have any experience with Great Danes? What are they like as adults? How is their temprement towards their owners? Towards strangers? Towards other dogs? My understanding is that they are very loyal dogs.

My St. Bernard is as gentle as can be. I would not worry 1 second to leave him around children. I will say though, that when I engage in a tug-of-war with him (his favorite activity), he shakes me around like a ragdoll (and I weigh over 200lbs)! Incredible strength. You can easily see how they would excel as "rescue dogs".

They're temperament towards humans is generally very good. Owners, kids, other adults are all lumped in. They can be aggressive if trained to guard of course. Such a big dog should be put in school ASAP and as far as I know the only issues with other dogs is if it's the same kind and same sex, they can get harder to control.

Being around kids and others is never a problem with a properly trained Great Dane in fact, they need attention.

I'd agree with all this with the little amount of experience I've had with great danes.

The only thing I noticed though was that their size and weight could be a bit of an issue if a small child starts playing with them. They never mean any harm... but sometimes the one I had experience with could get slightly rambunctious .

The last one we had was trained not to "bump" or "lean" on people. Apparently that's possible nowadays.
