Well after 41 years working for IBM I decided to take my next step and get out of the business. I spent my 1st week getting the Fcar ready for my daily driver(except for rain). I can see already that the feeling of "doing what I want to" is going to be great. I'll be ready for my belt change in the fall but now I'll put the golf clubs in the back of the car and headin out for a few practice rounds. I'll be heading for Green Brier in W. Vir. at the end of the month for a week of golf and relaxation with my wife. So for all if you enjoy your job you are lucky and will stay the course. I'm set financially and will also start to suck out all of the SS I put into the system. I'm just going to get as much as possible before you Baby Boomers start draining it , HA. So I'll be driving the red car as much as I can. See ya on the back side.

Congratulations! I retired at the end of 2005 and haven't looked back. Everyday is Saturday and every good weather day is a driving day! Putting miles on my F-car like there's no tomorrow. Golf in the morning and a good drive in the afternoon, that's enjoying life.

Hey, congrats on your new and well-deserved retirement. I decided to reset my compass at age 55 so my "retirement" started exactly a year ago. But frankly the walls are closing in on me and for me life doesn't feel right without forward momentum. So I'm looking to re-join the working world by purchasing a small business.

If I was a bit older my ex-colleagues and friends would be available for golf and other pursuits during the week and it would be a much different scenario I'm sure. So for all you young guys thinking about cashing in your chips early, think twice. It ain't always what it appears to be.

    Enjoy every minute!!

I retired in 2000 at 49, drove everyone crazy including myself, for a 1 1/2 years. I went back into the real world and did not look back loving every minute will never retire again. You need something to look forward everyday. Like he said it is not always what it appears to be.

I can see why some of you who would retire at 55 or 49 would get bored quickly if you don't plan on an afterlife. I would not have considered doing this at that age. So if you enjoy your job then keep doing it or go out and start your own business. My work career lasted 45 years with the last 41 being the longest tour of duty. So I am looking forward to the next 20 or so while I have pretty good health. Even though I liked my job and the 6 figure income it was time to reap the rewards. So I have no house payments and no college payments and no car payments and 0 credit card debit its time to move on an let you young bucks take the reins. I have been in various engineering management positions in the semiconductor business with my last tour in corp. procurement. I left on top . So I'm on a 6 month do what I want to journey and if I need some part time fill in the future I'll find something with no pressures. Remember I'll be in the catbird seat and if I don't want to do something then I just walk. So I'm heading for the SS office in a few weeks and will start to suck out $'s from it. Every day is a Saturday except for Sunday and at this point I'm lovin it. Enjoy the ride and thanks for payin my way.

Congratulations and enjoy your retirement - In October 2005 I retired at full retirement age from the house of black and blue - Was offered an early Retirement package - I walked with 14 months pay + pension. + 401K + benefits) It did take me a about 2 months to mentally make the transition after 40 years in corporate America. I agree that now is the time to enjoy youself and reap the rewards while you can. Initially thought I might enjoy some consulting, but now would not consider it at any price. Actully got an offer, but it would only put me back on the road again. Now when I travel, the whole day and night belongs to me. Unbelievable! Every day starts with a smile on my face.
