...and want to give a HUGE thanks to everyone here for helping steer me towards the Formula Continental. Have been doing small bits on her the past few days as the first event is Monday/Tuesday. She is set up on the slightly softish side to be forgiving, perfect for this newbie on a very technical track (NHIS double chicane configuration) that can be brutal if you have an off. Please cross your fingers as my goal, quite frankly, is to do ok laps times and have zero offs. Of course hope to find deeper brake points as the days go on, faster exit speeds, etc.

Again, MANY thanks as i am AMAZED how easy it is to access everything! Have changed the gears (only takes an hour or a touch less, love the LD200) plus aligning her and other bits are soooooo much easier than the red Italian thing. It feels great turning a few quarter-turn bits, remove cover and EVERYTHING is right there to get at.

    You guys rock!!!!!!!

Come on, go for the gold! Settle for nothing but the top :) Although I've heard nothing of this racing project yet - good luck!! Care to write a few words on what you're racing for the less informed?

Around November asked the guys and gals here about what should be my next track weapon. After much back and forth, and considering my limited funds, it boiled down to a well cared for, professionally maintained 99/00 Formula Continental ex-Pro level car with lots of spares. It has the Kent (Pinto) 2L carb'ed engine prepped by Elite, with plans to upgrade to Zetec 2L if after this season my interest is to continue with her. Yeah, seem the snow and unrelenting cold weather cancelled the event and not sure if open track day on Thursday is still a go. This means my next proper track day would be WGI April 23 and 24. i'll pop in different gear set, adjust aero and various bits as necessary.

Amen, from your typing fingers to G-d's ears. This is also why i opted for a slightly softer setup so she is more forgiving for a newbie like me. No need to rush to get the last second out of her, or fractions thereof, during my first stints with the car.

How does that good ol' Stones' song go? "Time is on my side, yes it is."

Steven, I'm sure it's been a pleasure learning everything you've learned so far about your new toy.

    Cheers!

Yes indeed. It is soooo nice working on a, well, proper track car. It is so EASY to access things and following lines for troubleshooting. Went to SCCA yearly tech inspection yesterday with the car and my suit/helmet passed with flying colors. The tech guy spoke very highly of GTP, the US Van Diemen importer and who has been maintaining the car for the past few years. Of course GTP are the folks who prepped the car to the very high quality of care she sits today so they should receive the kudos for easily passing inspection.

Hopefully there will be open track at NHIS on April 12 and 19 so i can get a basic feel for her, then dump/bleed various fluids and prep her for WGI. Need to be at NHIS tomorrow morning to pick up a set of Hoosier wets and have all three sets (1 set wet and 2 sets of 35's) balanced by Hoosier East guy. Am debating getting a set of Hoosier super soft 25s as have 4 sets of rims here. The 25s will be for SCCA qualification and COMSCC time trial final run. Of course 25s are so soft they will not last more than a few runs before they are scrap, so am debating the budgeting.

Frankly, am living the saying "How do you make a small fortune racing..." :)

Will do. Right now my schedule is online at http://www.enjoythetrack.com/race_schedule/. i MIGHT cross the boarder, but about 7 years ago the Canadian boarder guys gave me heck and from then on i kinda boycotted the country all the while travelling throughout Europe, Asia, etc. Sad really, Canada is missing out on tens of thousands of tourism dollars from me.

Sorry, Steven, can't help you there. When you can justify it, Mosport will be a refreshing track for you.
