... anyone have a photo of the OEM valve stem caps for an '87 328? I know they're plastic, I know they were black. I assume they're all the same -- i.e., I can just run over to Napa (the auto parts place, not the wine region - although that sounds better, come to think of it) and pick up a set.

My car has the pretty chrome/cavallino caps and I want to swap them back for a couple of shows.

(The previous owner of my car kept the caps for his '87 Testarossa... grrrr.)

(Yes, I have other things to worry about as well.)

I just received 4 new valve stems with the black caps for my 1989 328. If they are the same I'd be happy to take a picture and send it. Are they the same as the '87 model year? If so let me know and I'll send a few pictures. Probably best to PM me if so.

Don't feel bad about losing the chrome "bling" caps.

I've always thought they looked a bit ridiculous on all cars. It just doesn't seem like a place that needs a shiny logo.

The cheap plastic ones are fine but my favorites are metal.

I assume they are the same, but I don't know. That's why I'm calling on the 3x8 maniacs on this site.

If you prefer not to post, PM me and I'll give you my email address.

This is what I recently ordered, I believe an original Ferrari part for my car and I believe yours as well but others will have to confirm that.

I was told by a regional FCA concorso judge that I needed black plastic caps, no specific one, since sourcing at Ferrari didn't spec a "Ferrari" black plastic cap - My car took Silver in the 308 class. Go to Napa, Pep boys. I had plain metal caps on my car and swapped them with the black plastic caps on my wife's new T-Bird

I've judged FCA events; non-OEM caps will cost you 1/4 to 1/2 a point, depending on standards set by the chief judge. The caps and stems pictured are correct; I ordered a set from Ferrari UK.

Do you have a part number for what you ordered? I'm in the process of refinishing my wheels and will want to use 'original' valve stems. I'll use the original caps for shows as well.

Without having anything else to go on, I used the picture in the 308gt4 parts manual as my guide. I thought the drawing looked like a metal cap. Perhaps I am wrong. Are these plactic caps correct for the 70s cars also? (1978 gt4).

Those are correct for that period. I am trying to narrow it down a bit but I know the metal caps pictured came on BBi's so that puts their use up to somewhere after 80 and the TR/328 all had plastic so the steel where gone by 85. When judging, until I narrow it down further, I accept either for the period between.

    Hi Jon,

Not obsessive at all. The above-posted valve stem is the "current" Ferrari listing, but my '88 9000-mi car came with the type pictured below (on 3 of 4 wheels, apologies for such poor images). Roughly trapezoidal in cross-section with circumferential longitudinal "grooves" and a small "button" on top. I have a set as on the complete valve stem above, but these are significantly different. I'm not certain if these are "OEM correct" from 1980s vintage, but would certainly welcome community input. For what it's worth, they appear to match the version on the 328 convex wheel on the top of p57 in the Bluemel book.

(and if you have a single matching one, name your price! (smile))

    Best,

    Carl

My ’83 QV has the metal caps on 16” wheels. I can’t swear the caps are original.

My 1986 testarossa has the original black plastic caps on it. From what I recall, they said 'Ferrari' on them in fine molded in letters. I may be hallucinating, so I need to check them again when I get home and post a picture if true.

If it helps, those caps look exactly like those that came on our Jag S-Type. Probably get them at the local dealer.

I believe they say "Italy" but not "Ferrari" but judges are not looking for that. It is enough that they are black rubber.

Ok - these are the metal caps and stem that came with my 76 308 . Now I'm going into the garage and put the metal caps back on mine and return the plastic ones to the T-Bird - Next Concorso I'm "borrowing" the black plastic and taking them with me as well.

And Bullfighter - you thought you were anal?

Actually just wanted to get 'anal' in the title so the thread would come up in searches.

Around the top - in a circle around the nipple - is says "BRIDGEPORT ITALY". Probably a stock Fiat part of the era. Cheers, george

Just a thought - if the spare is original, shouldn't the valve caps match?

Checked it and yes, it has the "Bridgeport Italy" lettering. So, just need 4 more of those...
