Hi all, I am interested in purchasing one of these, I bought a 97' F355 last November, had the 15k service done, drove it 20 miles and the engine blew up, now the car is at the junkyard. I am looking to buy a 98'/99' 355 spyder, red corsa/beige preferrably in the NY/NJ/CT area.

Let me know if anyone can help...Thanks!

It was part of the 96'/97' recall, faulty single fuel pump. As I was driven along I smelled alittle gas, switched the gear to neutral and the engine backfired, looked in the rear view and the engine block was on fire...scary stuff.

titanium360...where in LI? Specs if you got, Thanks.

I hate hearing stories like this - or seeing pictures of F430s where the only identifiable remnant is the wheel.

Better luck this time. I'm actually looking forward to my 30k major!

Mine did about the same thing at 17-20k miles :(

For mine, however, I got the guys at Auto Sport Designs to rebuild and rebalance the engine for 26k and the car is now more powerful and runs stronger than ever before, and in the end it was cheaper than buying a new one.

Lets hear the story about your car - is it still in one piece or is it burned. Are you interested in selling it as-is?

Barely recognizable! The car cooked for literally 15-20 mins before the fire dept extinguished it. The interior is completely unsalvagable & the exteriors back half is well, well done. The front end sustained the least amount of damage (not to be confused with little damage). I appreciate your insite though... Honestly, I'd prefer an F1 355 now.

My hats off to you for wanting another 355 after what you've gone through.
I think most people would just turn away and look for other models or even avoid the brand altogether.
Well that goes to say 355 does have its charms.
Hope you find your next car soon. Good luck and have fun searching.

The recall was not specifically for the fuel pump, but with the routing of the fuel lines, and the proximity to a coolant hose clamp, that if not positioned correctly, would rub on the fuel line, causing a leak.

I have made sure my fuel lines do not rub on anything when the lid is closed.......... after reading too many 355 "fuel leak stories" on here.... :(.

Wow, sorry to hear. Was that in CT? Sounds like at least insurance would cover it, so you made out better than failing a timing belt at least.

I don't worry about this happening (mine was post-recall), but I've seen enough stories that I do watch the rear view mirror closely...
