For the first time, a friend of mine and I bled my F40's clutch. We found a nipple for bleeding the clutch that was installed by a previous owner that was acccessible after removing the pan in to bottom of the car in the rear. I mashed the clutch and held it in while he bled. Nasty fluid and air came out. A few repetitions and the fluid was clear and the air bubbles gone. Now i have a nice firm clutch and I am happy a former owner had installed that line to a convenient accessible spot where bleeding is a breeze. I suggest you do that to your stock F40 and cut down lots of time and effort reaching the nipple above the clutch housing.

Funny you should mention this....I did the same thing a few months back at home and couldn't find the bleed screw at its usual location....I called a dealer and spoke with a long time service tech who described the location you mentioned....turns out, some tech at the factory located it here at their own choosing. Each car really is different !

Now, I bled the clutch and the pedal was nice and firm for a couple of weeks, but then started to soften again....had the master cylinder replaced, and now my knee is really hatin' it....

What led you to belive that the master cylinder was the problem ?

Was the master cylinder leaking ?

What were the tell tail signs ?

Did you consider the clutch slave cylinder seals at all?

I bled it 3 or 4 times myself, and it kept going soft....I sent it in for a look, and everything checked out at the rear. Not sure what was found up front, but the diagnosis was master cylinder, it was replaced, and no more issues.
