Porsche Carrera GT South on Main Street in Wheaton 6:30 tonight
Amongst some of the other cars are an SLR, Carerra GT, 599GTB, Ford GT, LP640, 911 Turbo, 430 Spider, and Saleen S7.
Not that I particularly disagree, but I was just wondering what would then be "bad taste in cars" given an equal amount of money? I mean if you're willing to part with that much cash, can you even "go wrong"?
A fleet of 100 Hyundais. There are some questionable buys made at Barrett-Jackson that I think people went wrong with IMHO.
The Hyunday comment kinda makes my point: If you throw that much $$$ at one car, how can you go wrong. I was thinking about Barrett-Jackson and agree that some folks clearly overpaid, but does that make the collection a sign of less taste? I think the car world is more objective than e.g. the art world where you can really dump a fortune into a POS of art and thereby showing your bad taste and lack of understanding (or shall we say your eccentricity). With cars I can't really see the same thing happening, because "tasteless" cars are normally synonym with cheap cars. PS: Sorry for the hijack, but given the current weather I doubt there is much exotics spotting going on anyway.
In the area of cars, perhaps different terminology should be used in relation to ones collections. For example, connoisseur may be a better way to describe someone's collection of which there is historical significance. In the examples cited above, there really aren't any. They are just the best money can buy from their respective marques. However, someone that has a collection of vintage Ferraris, or Mercedes-Benzs, and in modern terms a coachbuilt car (such as Kalikow or our very own Glickenhaus) would be a connoisseur's collection. Then again, it could be argued that collections such as those are truely in good taste. As a side note, I'm aware of Russ's vintage car(s) as well. He is definatly an auto enthusiast and in no way am implying that he's just some guy that went on a shopping spree with no tastes.
I didn't hear anyone say it but a bunch of Lambos on Ogden last Friday night, due to their grand opening. Real nice variety.
Not really an exotic (SL65 Kleemann) but really got caught with my pants down today. Switched to Summer tires a week ago and was sliding all over in this crazy weather....
I saw a maroon Lotus Elise parked in front of White Hen (Route 64) last Friday afternoon. And today, I saw a blue Bentley Continental GT cruising along Bloomingdale Ave. It looks really good in that color.
I've spoke with Russ before... at the last Italian Village show... nice guy. Very unassuming, even when buffing his Enzo!
More importantly... Silver conv. Panoz at detail shop in HP. dark silver 599 !!! (my first on the street). North on 41. Was at LFSC later, saw same car... it was MJ's (he was not there). Very dark silver with red interior. The Red and Black Enzos are still there... gotta love the red Enzo's plates "YO ENZO" LFSC also has a tanish color 275 there!
While maybe not considered an exotic, the SL65 was just named the sexiest car for recently divorced wives. Congrats!
Just spotting from my house today.... Black Gallardo spyder silver Gallardo coupe dark blue Elise and it is only noon!
Spotted a red 430 going into downtown from the Ohio st. ramp on friday. What a beautiful sound it made.
