Club rules "never pass another ferrari"

Which club has that kind of rule? Is it a California thing? Certainly I've never seen anything like that around here. We're all adults and responsible for our own actions.

 

I didn't know that passing was considered "reckless driving".

I'm from Minnesota, "the state where absolutely nothing is allowed".

 

What does this have to do with racing or tracking?

Passing zones exist for a reason.

I think the spirit of what was said goes way back. In the sixty's when I drove all the really neat Vettes (couldn't even dream Ferrari) it was customary to wave at another Vette coming from the opposite direction. Coming up on another "brother" going your way, you pulled along side and gave a little salute. Then, you either dropped back or forged ahead. Now that I'm on my third F-car, I still do it out of respect. No worries.

 

Never heard of such a silly rule?

I've only been on a couple club runs, but it seemed to me that they had never heard of such a rule.
As long as it's done safely and without excessively excessive speed, how else are you going to hear what a 328, or 360, or a Boxer sounds like wound up and punched?

I never have to worry about passing another Lotus because I never even SEE another Lotus. And if I did, he'd be faster than me anyway.

The release forms are generally an acknowledgement of limited liability on behalf of the organizers.

I doubt any such waiver will outline passing rules. I haven't seen one that has.

Given my witness to accidents due to illegal passing because of errors in judgement and driver limitations (not limitations of the vehicle), discouragement generally takes place verbally in pre-drive instructions/announcements.

Passing rules can no more be enforced than someone disobeying the speed limit. Passing when safe is something not easily done, expensive cars and money, 2 wheels or 4 wheels, or not.

Saying "no passing" is like having your son bring his g/f home and she can spend the night as long as they sleep in separate rooms. It doesn't work. What does work is not inviting back those that put others in danger.

 

The reason for being there is to hear others come ripping by. It should look like a musical chairs!

 

When I drive with the Lamborghini group, these guys pass each other all the time, almost like synchronized swimmers. Whenever some bozo tries to break up the group and won't let the last guy in, one of the guys in front of him immediately brakes and lets the guy in. It is so cool! Half the time when I'm driving with Ferraris, the moment I pass someone to take over the lead, they interpret it as some sort of provocation, and have to do everything possible to get back into the lead. What's up with that?

There never has been such a rule. The rules that the FCA enforces on its Ride 'N Drive events are that you obey the basic traffic laws and that you do nothing dangerous or stupid. Ferrari's pass other Ferraris all the time but they do it safely. Our members are expected to show courtesy as well as good judgment in what they do on the road. Our concerns relate primarily to safety, followed closely by courtesy. In other words, we try to make our events safe and a pleasure for everyone.

Track events follow other rules, too numerous to list here and they may vary in non-safety particulars from region to region.
