Their are both advantages and disadvantages in selling L.

I would hope it may put an end, to large scale platform sharing.

As much as I don't like the German influence on Lamborghini this could be bad for it's continuous existence. Can't help but believe "Green pressure" has something to do with their decision also.

Why? isn't the Gallardo the most successful Lambo ever, by a long shot?

Yes, but I don't think that Lambo is making enough profits to make it worthwhile to some bean counter.

I assume this is typicall over-refing from fleet-street! Seeing their image brands going to foreign owners (OK, Aston-M. is "back home" again -almost!), the UK-press chaps would like it very much to see Lamorghini go.

But what does Wiedeking say REALLY? He said "No toys anymore!" This can also mean that VW-Group is not allowed to buy any more of this high-image brands. The Gallardo is a very expensive car and so bring very good cash in their pockets. Also it shares many components with the AUDI R8 and -perhaps- future types. If Lamborghini will come out with a new 4-seater (I doubt it as Porsche has its "Panamera") than it will share a chassis based on an AUDI.

    Ciao!

yer i read this morning about vw either selling or dropping lambo and bugatti, was jsut about to post this, as we all know bugatti are definately not profitable and a while ago porsche kicked up a fuss about bugatti as porsche have a large stake in the vw group. I find it hard to see that lamborghini will be no more though, bugatti mayb as they make a car every million years or so but not lambo. And the new owner would have a alot to think about, going on what has been said about the vw groups takeover of lambo i.e soft cars etc, would be great if they went back to the days of producing like one awesomely different car to everything else.

I refuse to read anything on Winding Road. When "journalists" engage in outright lying and hoaxing that destroys any credibility they have.

This story may be true, but I will not give them any traffic and urge the rest of you to find somewhere else to get your motoring news. Please don't enable the liars to get paid.

true but i really wouldnn't put it past them bugatti being sold or scrapped, i worked out how much they would loose if 300 veyrons were made, maybe wrong but i think it was nearly a billion or something so really wouldn't suprise me and like i said i know for sure porsche were kicking up a fuss about it.

Doesn't say where or when he said it and in what context or what the topic of conversation was or even what question he was asked which prompted that response. Could be nothing more than posturing to get Winkelmann to do something he wants.

These comments were made a while ago and are not new. What they may or may not mean, if anything, is pure speculation.

This has already been discussed here.

He was talking about the Veyron when he said "no more toys"

A few days later he went back to say, "oh no, you misunderstood, we're not selling lambo" Something to that effect.

    Exactly.
Let it go already. This is all pure speculation to create text. If Lamborghini is to be sold, we will be duly informed via a Press Release.

I believe the VW spokesman was referring to the fact that when Porsche got on the board at VW the Porsche rep said that there would be no more money spent on developing toys like the Veyron. The Veyron, from most reports, is a money loser for VW and Porsche does not want to see VW repeat that exercise. I do not believe there has been any suggestion that Lamborghini should be sold.
