Let me start by saying I think Lewis Hamilton very well may be the next really great F1 driver. He looks like the real deal. I also must say it's still very early and the first three races may not be telling us as much as we all want to think. One thing bothers me though. I recorded and rewatched the famous attempted pass by Massa where he went off the track after trying a second time to pass Hamilton and Hamilton's subsequent claim that he baited and then tricked Felipe to go off. After watching the recording many times I think Massa just made a mistake as Hamilton did nothing with his car that looked like it was his doing that Massa went off. I don't know for sure , but if he is claiming this great move without really having performed it it does not bode well for him in the future. I still think he has the potential to be one of the greats, but I hope he doesn't get too full of himself on the way. I still must say that Kimi really needs to step it up in qualifying for he and Ferrari to really win this thing. Although the cars and teams seem to be closer and more competitive than anytime in the recent past, for some reason the racing is not a huge exciting spectacle like it should be. I have been watching F1 since before Lauda had his big crash and think it now has turned into a sport that is as much about the things that go on off the track and behind the scenes then on. Maybe that's why Nascar has such a fallowing in the US. It's very simple and uncomplicated. You don't have to work so hard to be a fan. (No offense ment to any Nascar fans)
Not to downplay his obvious talent, but how can Hamilton rise through the ranks while being groomed by McLaren and Ron Dennis and NOT be arrogant? I have to laugh everytime I see Peter Windsor rejected by that blonde woman in his attempts to get a pre-start word with Lewis. I guess she's his handler?
And is arrogance necessarily a bad thing? Wasn't it the insult most often used against Mr Schumacher? In the UK Martin Brundle does a grid walk before the race. He tells us that Lewis has asked to be left alone before the race so he can concentrate. Lewis usually does an interview for British TV which is shown as part of the race build-up to try to compensate. Seems fair enough to me. Michael didn't allow British TV to talk to him on the grid for the last few years of his career as he took exception to something Brundle once said - I don't know what though. Uneasy? No. I am really enjoying this season. It's weird because I like Alonso and Hamilton, but can't stand McLaren. I don't like Kimi. I really want Massa to be champion. Mostly though, I watch each race just hoping for a good battle.
I was less impressed with that because I think of it more as Massa making a mistake, rather than LH inducing a mistake. In the best light, it was LH holding off the over-exhuberant Massa. I still haven't seen him put on the brilliant pass and make it stick, so until then I will reserve judgment on the abilities of young Hamiltion. Regards, NMJ
Is it a bad thing? I don't know, it seems MS let his "arrogance" shine in the car, where yes, I agree, it belongs. There have been other greater drivers (than LH) who exhibited humility and class outside of the cockpit. RD and his organization just ooze arrogance at all times...
Dont think brundle upset him, never heard that one, but schui was contracted to a german tv compnay, so no britsh pre race chat.
...I think McLaren finally nailed a car that can win and contend... after more than 9 years out of the loop...if BMW or RED BULL doesnt nail them first and we speed away... LH is getting the best of the car?..yes Alonso Will?..yes...eventually, I dont like Alonso but he will catch up Can Ferrari beat them?...I think so.I hope so...and I push all race long like a pregnant hippo to see it happen. I think McLaren got along very well with the new rubber, and WE arent so fast on the infield twisty tracks...well see if this upcoming aero parts might help us gain a bit of low speed aero grip to compensate...we´ll see...If we keep on evolving... we can win. Development stage of the car was scheduled to end in barcelona...hit the gas... ...my main concern was if the car and the drivers were up to the task of keeping the pace for a full race distance even when we are not 100% ready yet, the car is really fast even on heavier fuel loads, and has marginal problems with mechanical grip...Shakir answered that, we have the package to battle for the title since day one. That´s what I want to see... a close battle, but a red winner...even 1,2 or 1,3 all year long. excuse the biased opinion...think of working for the scuad. PS: I miss schumi.VERY.
No doubt! God, I wish the TV coverage would have showed RD's face when Nick put the move on Alonso . . . He probably has some agreement with F1M to cut away when stuff like that happens!
in fact, i think there was something Brundle said that made Schumi upset. i remember reading about it somewhere..
It is correct that Michael had a contract to talk to German TV before each race, but he could also speak to Brundle if he wanted to - and he used to. I don't know what Martin said, but he did say something that Michael took exception to which is why British TV viewers never saw Martin talking to Michael before a race for the last few years.
