That is one of the 1994's ive seen. I have seen a few more red/tans 1994. Anywho..........that would be one of the cheapest 355's you would see in Australia. I dont like it at all.................. They reckon the seller is a little dodgy as well.
That car has been seen heaps of times. It came up at an auction place not so long ago. As has been already mentioned, very cheap for a 355 in Australia. I like some of the parts on that car, but it its repeatedly up for sale so often, it makes me wounder whether somethings a tad fishy.
Hey there - new to Fchat but already addicted. Looking at taking the leap on an F355 but not sure if this one is the right way to go given the comments above (just thought that one at this price would leave plenty in the kitty for maintenance etc). Dealer says it is an import with the mods made by the original o/s owner. The Ferrari service centre that has been servicing it says it is an ok car with all necessary work done on it (cam belt, valve guides one side a couple of yrs ago). If the car was to pass an independent PPI, is it still one to avoid or is it worth considering? Can anyone direct me to where I can find more information about the Gruppe M mods? Thanks - any advice greatly appreciated.
Welcome to Ferrarichat mate. Does that car have a complete service history with it? Can they provide receipts/proof that the major/belts and valve guides were actually done? You are right in saying that a 355 in that price range, will leave you more money in the kitty for maintenance. BUT...............that kitty will soon dry up when you have to start spending some money on it for repairs ect...... Great looking car, I just dont like the wheels or the interior. I suppose you can always retrim to standard and replace the wheels. I have heard that seller is not ridgy didge either. That is coming from a few Aussies that have dealt with them 1st hand. But in saying that mate, if you get a good PPI done from a trusted and respected Ferrari mechanic, then there is no reason to not buy the car if you like it. Go for it if PPI is good and you really want it. But...........you have been warned. Good luck and dont forget to fill out your profile. Enjoy Fchat.
Thanks for the info PAP. I don't believe they have the full history but they have provided the paperwork for the major/belts and can probably get hold of some of the rest from the Syd Ferrari mechanic. I agree on the interior/wheels - not really to my taste - any idea what it would roughly cost to retrim and replace the wheels (I'm sure there is still some room in their price for further negotiation). Is there anyone in Sydney you would particularly recommend to do a PPI if I decide go further on this car? Cheers.
I personally wouldn't bother with it spent the little extra and get an Aus delivered there are a few around at the moment.... I had a import 348 and the problem is when you go to sell it not many people will look at it as it has no service history...... If your not worried about the re-sale of it go for it but i was looking for my 355 for the last 6months and that car has been around the whole time Good Luck
Thats a good start if they can supply proof of major/cam belts change. The more info/history on the car the better. The interior can always be retrimmed back to factory spec. Budget at least AU$3-4K+ to re-trim in black leather. Stock 355 wheels are hard to get a hold of in Australia. Not too many people are selling them. But.....I do know of a set of 4 for sale for AU$4000 without tyres and 2 wheels are slightly scratched. Need re-painting. That sort of cash will get that 355 looking like stock again. Silver/black 355 is a killer combination BTW! If you can talk these jokers down to say $130K+, then I reckon you would have a real bargin on your hands, pending a good PPI of course. I have a friend looking into a PPI for you. He will recommend the best guy to see for a Ferrari PPI, in the Sydney area. He personally owns 2 beautiful Ferraris that are meticulously maintained. I will get back to you with that info as soon as he gets back to me.
Yeah I agree resale is likely to be harder than with an Aust delivered car - however, at this stage I can't forsee wanting to sell the 355 once I buy one - would rather keep it in the garage to drive occasionally even when I get something else so resale is probably less important to me than mechanical condition. A bit of a concern if it has been around for 6 mths though!
Thanks PAP - that's great. They definately have room to move on price and I wouldn't be likely to offer any more than approx $130K anyway all things considered. It has been serviced by Piccola Scuderia in Sydney - does your mate know anything about them? Can you direct me anywhere to find out any more about the Gruppe M mods? Appreciate all the advice.
I think the main reason for the car not selling for over 6 months now, is because it looks like sh*t!! It really does. Interior is horrible and wheels are cool, but dont really suit that paticular car. If it were a stock 355 for that price, I am sure it would have been sold ages ago. Aussie delivery issue is that spending a little extra to get an Aussie delivered 355 will be an extra $30K+ in this case. Not $5K or $10K. If he buys the car for around $130K-$140K, he will always be able to re-sell it for a very similar price IMO, because it is way under market value now. Maybe even recoupe the money spent if it is converted back to stock with wheels and re-trim. Thats just my opinion anyways.
Will find out about Piccola for you. $130K would be a fantastic price if the car is spot on. Id say go for it. I would if I wanted one. That is cheapest 355 you will get in Australia. Import or not! Modded or not!! Good luck! I will get back to you soon about PPI info in Sydney. I dont know much about the Gruppe M mods sorry. Havent had anything to do with them mate.
I have been looking seriously for a 355 berlinetta for 5 months and have been keeping a close eye on what's out there. FYI, that grey 355 was for sale at $149,990 @27-03-07. Price has dropped 10K......???? Sorry, I reckon it's ugly. Like they say..everything sells eventually! We'll see.
