There's a reason why people fled the UK to form the United States of America. It certainly wasn't to come over here and eventually emulate England by taking away the freedoms that people here have fought died to protect for centuries.

PLEASE!!! This kid didn't wake up one day and decide that he needed to shoot dozens of people just because guns were easy to come by. It appears that you're trying to rationalize an irrational act, but doing so without the use of any logic at all. What if he'd have made a bomb out of common household items? Would you campaign to ban substances that are used every day? Don't blame the tool, because the gun is certainly NOT the cause of this.

And why do you presume this? If I would have been in Norris Hall, I would have liked the opportunity to defend myself against this guy.

Yet you want to give police all of the power to have guns, not the citizens??? Scary.

Pure assumption, without basis or merit. You'd likely be singing a different tune if the guy would have been shot and killed immediately by someone who was legally carrying a weapon. Of course, if that had happened we would not be getting anywhere NEAR this much media attention.

Since you seem to favor gun control, help explain this to me. VT banned firearms on campus, yet this guy ignored that gun control law and killed dozens of unarmed citizens. How would more gun control laws do anything but help the next person who wants to try something like this???

I see absolutely no logic here, whatsoever.

If our government takes away the rights of citizens (like you propose), you're probably right. I hope we're a smarter nation than that.

anyone who thinks guns has anything to do with this is a flippin retard

people like this kid ARE NOT NORMAL! they will sit and mastermind a plan to kill one person or one hundred people for as long as it takes with or without weapons.

if after everything that has surfaced regarding this kids history you can honestly say that this would have been avoided with ANY amount of control or security you're completely naive.

he didn't do this out of rage. he didn't do this out of passion. he didn't decide this last minute. this is proving to be a very well orchestrated series of events that almost nobody could have stopped.

mind you, A LOT of lives were saved. had people not done what they did do that day....there would be a lot more deaths than what we're dealing with

The shooter was not a citizen of the USA. The first time he exibited any kind of threatening behavior he should have been escourted on the first plane back to where he came from. You go to any other country on the planet and try stalking someone. They will run you out of the country so fast you wont have time to take a leak.

You're right, ALMOST no one could have stopped it. A legally armed citizen could have stopped him with one well-placed shot.

That's who this killer really should've taken with him.

    UPDATE:

The vulgar image, obtained by NBC news, was part of a package that included several photographs, a video and a manifesto-like statement. The network immediately called the FBI and turned over the package. NBC plans to run the video on tonight's edition of NBC Nightly News.

Among the materials are 23 QuickTime video files showing Cho talking directly to the camera, Capus said. He does not name anyone specifically, but he talks at length about his hatred of the wealthy.

The production of the videos is uneven, with Cho’s voice so soft that at times it is hard to understand him. But they indicate that Cho had worked on the package for some time, because he not only “took the time to record the videos, but he also broke them down into snippets” that were embedded paragraph by paragraph into the main document, Capus said.

The package also includes several photographs showing Cho in different locations, sometimes posed against a white, cinderblock wall. In some of the photographs, Cho is holding handguns “consistent with what we’ve heard about the guns in this incident,” Capus said.

Other photographs show Cho holding a knife, and some show hollow-point bullets lined up on a table, Capus said.

“This may be a very new, critical component of this investigation,” said Col. Steven Flaherty, superintendent of Virginia State Police, the lead agency investigating the shootings. “We’re in the process right now of attempting to analyze and evaluate its worth.”

    Whats left to investigate ?

He was a psychopath and he killed a bunch of people..he had mental and emotional issues. The details really dont matter unless he had an accomplice ( and the odds of that are slim to none)

They just have to keep it in the news for the morbid rubberneckers who cant get enough.

Im sure the friends and families of the deceased dont want to be bombarded with this anymore.

The friends and family could have done something about this sick **** before he killed 32 people. I'm not really worried about hurting their feelings. If we don't keep rubbing this guy and people like the 2 sicko's at Colubine in peoples faces they will continue to ignore the problem and we will continue to have the human version of a rabid dog roaming the streets. No law is going to stop these people. The better we are at recognizing the problem the better we will be at preventing innocent people getting killed.

I havent seen anything from this kid that seperates him from thousands of other 'problem' kids.

By giving these people 'screen time' you are inspiring OTHERS to commit these acts... Recognition is part of what drives them.

And I have firsthand experience here as about 15 years ago a very good friend of mine killed his family, his fiance and her family and himself. The 'warning signs' are only in hindsight.

You can go on any college campus in America and find dozens, if not more, students who fit this 'profile' the media is trying to concoct. Its misleading and a waste of resources.

People are curious as to what causes someone to commit such a desperate act, thus all the media attention.(plus it distracts from all the mess in the ME ;) ) Horrendous actions like this are symptoms of a problematic society. Is there anything that can be done? Probably not, as the cat's out of the bag and hopefully there aren't too many of these nut jobs lurking around and ready to do the same or worse.

The question still remains what the significance of Ismail Ax was on his arm.

With this video, it has an al quieda suicide bomber all over it.

There's a lot more on the tapes and everything in the envelope than we will ever know.

Guns are not a problem in Britain, that is for sure, the limey's have it all figured out, they banned them.....Dr. Harold Shipman (a Brit) holds the world record for murder......around 400 people, all killed without a gun. Lecture over.

Yeah, maybe Mattymouse 33 can send us a pic of the guy with his new Enzo at the GP paddock.....remember than thread MM ? Your judge of character is amazingly poor "again", and why you make remarks in this vein amazes me to say the least.

Gun deaths specifically? this site has the info until 98, and that's after the massacre. There is a decline, which could be due to the ban (which btw made many people angry, and the government had a buy back scheme for the firearms)
    http://www.guncontrol.org.au/index.php?article=14
All of that said, one of my good mates collects guns, and has two very high powered sniper rifles, and a 12 gage shot gun. So i guess that sort of thing could still happen here too.

It is in my opinion though that for the regular civillian to carry a gun is just unnecessary. Guns make it alot easier to kill people. "with laws that insist that people have the right to carry them and a culture that glamorizes their use"

My two cents anyway. Guess if you really want to commit that sort of thing, it will happen one way or another:(

i don't know which news coverage you've been watching but the exact opposite has been said. this kid did not fit just the regular profile of the ho-hum, emo college student. he was suicidal, temporarily placed in a mental institution, created sadistic and extremely disturbing plays, and took the concept of "social outcast" to a whole new level.

there were red flags all over this kid and nobody did jack shiit to make sure that he didn't hurt himself of others. many people have made the statement that the system failed that college and i am convinced that it the absolute truth

not near enough attention is given to mental illness. its blown off as someone not knowing how to deal with problems, or being dramatic, etc. mental illness is very serious and maybe NOW someone will acknowledge that and pay a little more attention to the next disturbed individual.

did anyone else see that news conference where they broke the story about nbc getting that package? the other networks must of been pissed about that, they made it sound like nbc was almost getting an exclusive on the story. those were definitely some freaky photgraphs, at least it explains the gap between shootings.

Where do you start? Look at how many homeless you see around suffering from mental illness. Who's going to deal with it? Where's the money going to come from? There's time bombs all over the place making that oh so easy trip to Munitions R Us right now.

way to take that out of context

are you actually suggesting that what officials and authorities did in the case of cho was the right decision? he was deemed to be mentally unstable and everyone still let him slip through the cracks. i'm not saying we should go out and give everyone a mental evaluation test. but if its PAINFULLY obvious that someone is suffering from a mental disease and they come to class with sunglasses on, a coat pulled up over half their face, and weeping during class, don't you think SOMEONE should have done SOMETHING MORE?!

At what point does a different personality get tagged as dangerious? Who makes that decision? People say the "system" failed, I don't think there was a system. If he didn't commit a crime, why would he be put under supervision or placed in jail or a mental ward? We have laws designed to prevent this type of society behavior and protect individual rights. Just because someone is quiet, lives alone, walks backwards, looks funny,....etc..... is no reason to take them out of society. We are all free untill we break the law.

It always easier to "see" that someone is having a mental problem AFTER they break the law. It is very difficult to predict it before. If they have a mental problem and cause no problems, then there is no reason to isolate them.
