Ive known dozens of people who fit that profile (including myself at one point )...its not uncommon at all..especially among the poor and disenfranchsed...the only thing about this kid that would be on my radar is the stalking part, but none of it screams 'mass murderer'.

If we're going to investigate every kid that fits this M.O. we're going to be looking into 10%+ of males under 24...

If you find those plays 'disturbing' then no disrespect , but Id have to say you;ve lived either a charmed and/or sheltered life. Since joining this site almost 2 yrs ago Im constantly amazed by whnat some consider 'shocking' or even suprising.

the media is sensationalizing this because americans need to pin blame on someone . They cant just accept that 'sh!!t happens' sometimes and we ARE powerless to do anything about it.

I will agree that not enough attention is given to mental illness..but so far i havent seen or heard any proof that this kid seemed physically dangerous

youre failing to acknowledge that he did MUCH more than that. he had been deemed mentally unstable at the end of 05. there were two complaints of stalking filed against him. he displayed a lot more than just "awkward" behavior

there's no system? so the whole realm of mental illness and psychiatrics is an illusion? okie dokie.

I can't see why anyone would be so upset over those stories he wrote. To those people, do you want Stephen King to be arrested or checked into a mental clinic? What about the creator of Saw I, II, and III? Kill Bill? etc?

rofl...that could not be further from the truth. you'll have to trust me on that one

he was suicidal. his own parents reported him to the authorities for that. since when is that not a big fuggin deal!?

and typically...when people put thoughts onto paper and they scream violence from every possible angle, thats a pretty good indication that the person is fantasizing about his writings to some extent. after all, they did come from HIS head.

It's not like people didn't try. College is a pretty friendly place in my view if you want it be.

Exactly. Hind sights 20/20. Although this guy was on the edge. Even if you spot some whack job the cops won't do anything unless he's seriously breaking the law. His previous run ins and the way the system handled it was about all that could have been done. Where were this guy's parents? He must have had some weird upbringing to be so out of touch. Did the parents ever blow the whistle on him or just do nothing because they were clueless or were directly involved in turning him into a societal monster?

Could someone clear some things for me about this? I got confused. In the first pages it says that the first 2 shootings were not from the one that shoot the 30 or something students (I imagine that they wrote that immediately as they heard the news and maybe they are not correct). So... did he do everything or were others involved? Could someone point me to any news site with the latest facts and all that stuff.

And in a link in the first pages of this thread, they link to a website were they have a picture of the police arresting an asian guy. It was obviously a suspect since the gun man shoot himself right?

I'm not sure who posted it now but I feel like the quicker "we" get over this (i.e. the news) then the less it will be an incentive towards others who were in his place. I feel like in America they blow it out of the water, it is a tragedy but so was the London Bombings. Literally the next day they were on the subways going to work like nothing happened. Another example, I can't remember which Country it is but I heard school shootings like this happen to the point of being a daily occurance...

I've noticed today is the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing and in the next few days is the Columbine shooting.

Mmmmm that would have worked too.
Better still if there were tighter gun laws, then that problem MAY not have occurred.
Is it a culture where you all feel so scared you need to carry guns?
    Sorry, thats my opinion.

The thing is, it seems these events only happen in off-beat parts of America where they feel the need to make a name for themselves. I feel its a whole different mindset, quite frankly one I'd never want to place myself in.

You're probably right but the fact is such weirdos/retards do exist in all countries, in cities as well as in the countryside. Simply if it's tough for such idiots to get their hands on a gun, they won't ever do it and simply keep on dreaming of the world's destruction.
Let them order an Assault riffle online and there you are counting bodies.

BTW Snake 8, if you take a close look at Aussies firearm stats, you'll find out that 70 % of all "crime" is actually suicide...

True, thank god Ebay has some rules.

In my mind this shooting, other incidents, and really any events in general all lead back to the saying, "If someone is determined to do something, they will." No matter what it is, and to me that's kind of the bottom line.

I dont know who said it, or if I'm quoting it right, but it sums things up fairly well. "In a society where everything goes, everything usually does."

I am alive today due to the fact that americans are allowed to arm themselves. I was in a situation where if the person I was with was not carrying a gun, we both would have been dead. Gun laws are only followed by law abbiding citizens. Making more laws will do nothing to affect the criminal element. We live in a world that is out of control, and continually getting worse. Until we figure out how to stabalize and correct this downward spiral, asking the law abiding citizens to disarm themselves against this criminal element is a foolish request.

Call me crazy but I believe so 100%. As long as we're not talking about gang-related, that seems to be everywhere. No offense to residents and I know there are good schools within but can you imagine going to school in states like Virginia, Missouri, Alabama, etc. and feeling like there's nowhere to escape? And I'm not even talking about the weather.

I'll explain, I think it truly comes down to the outlets that are around you. There's a major difference if you live in a big-city, or on the coast compared to some parts in the middle of the US. I guess it's hard for me to explain but there's a major difference. Hell, I dropped out of the college I went to for that very reason alone and that was only a 5 hour drive from home. I was active 18-20 hours a day during the school year and I still felt down, empty, unproductive. And to mention, socially I had the time of my life as well but it still didn't matter. And really, why would I want to spend 4-5 years living in the middle of a desert surrounded by only Malls? It's all about the atmosphere your in. I have a "career" now and I feel way better about myself than when I was in college for that year plus happier. WHO would've thought working is better than school? If you ask me I'd say where I live plays a major role..

Yes we do. It's called CAPITALISM. ;)

In my student budget I fit in a Glock, an AK47, and a couple thousand rounds of ammunition. My collection is very humble compared to those of many other students.
