I agree with you totally. Porsche 996 interiors are crap. As I posted earlier it looks like it was put together by a 2 year old with cheep materials. It`s a lot of the reason I traded it for the ferrari.

I would agree with this as well. But find a 996 with the full carbon interior package, and it is another story.

Out of curiosity, how does your 328 stack up against your 996 performance wise?

Not even close, the porsche would eat the ferrari alive in every category, but you can`t use all that performance on the street anyway. For a $70k+ porsche should use better materials. What car will be worth more 10 years from now? I traded my porsche 1 month ago and it lost 3k in retail value from then to now. This is the strong selling season for these cars. Yet more proof that 996 porsches are not that desirable. Water cooled porsche prices are falling of a cliff.

By the way you seem to be able to articulate yourself, I'm going to assume you're a child.

Contrasting an F40 with a Corvette is absurd.

Sounds like a GT3 might be the closest thing Porsche has to what you like.

    Fast, loud, hairy.

It is unrealistic to compare newer cars depreciation to older cars. The older the car, the more its depreciation will settle out. I am talking Porsches to Porsches here. Obviously, older F-cars do far better due to their scarce numbers and the amount of Magnum PI fans out there. ;)

Saw an old episode the other day...MAN were his shorts WAY too short. lol

You are right that was`nt fair. It isn`t fair comparing the two cars performance either. We agree on one thing tho .......... Magnums shorts LMAO

I would agree with you as well.

If anything I think Porsches are undervalued. For half the money of a Ferrari or Lambo you get a better built car, better reliability and comparable performance.

Picking them up after 2 years of depreciation is the best performance car buy i can think of.

My only problem is their looks..thats the only reason ive never owned one. For the most part I think they;re ugly but I know thats just my personal taste.

+1. Prices over time tell more of a story. Remember, the Speedster was the cheap Porsche in 1955, and that the 928 was priced similarly to the 911 in the 1980s (IIRC, it may have been more expensive.)

Yes, the shorts were too short.

With regard to the cars, of course newer cars depreciate more, but you need to look for any deviation from the trend of newer cars being more expensive. If you look at 993 prices, you'll see they are higher then 996. With the 997, it's too soon to tell. So at this point I think's right to say 996 prices have gone off a cliff.

I don't know if crappy interiors, market saturation, blobby styling or something else caused it. But, the market has spoken.

No arguing that, Boxster prices even more so. But to be fair, to judge whether the price drop is due to the car or to market factors, we need to know some figures. How many 996s were sold versus how many 993s would be the main one. I don't know the answer, but it would be interesting. I am guessing to a certain extent, their prices are just victims of the model's popularity. There was LOTS of spare cash floating around in the late 90's and early 00's. Plus the 993 has the "last of" attribute, which will always attract a certain loyalty regardless of all else.

My point is that a car's "quality" is not necessarily accurately reflected by its resale. Especially when they are one generation out.

Personally I think stock 996s are very blandly styled. It takes a turbo or a GT3 before they start to have any oomph for me. Boxsters aren't quite as bad, but it still takes dropping them and a different body kit and wheels to really transform them. (All my personal opinion of course.)

    Agreed.

For some reason in the P-Car world, the 996 is much like the 964...unloved (notwithstanding the GT3, GT2, or Turbo of course). The pre-1989 911s and the 993s will remain far more desirable for the most part, hence the stable & in some cases higher pricing.

If you ever get the chance (I am sure Bullfighter has done this), drive the 993 & 996 back to back and you will notice a HUGE difference in the cars...the 993 is more "old-school" Porsche (a VERY good thing), and the 996 is more, well, refined. The 996 reminds me more of an M5 or E55 in its delivery...fast but too smooth & insulated. The 993 still makes all the cool noises, and the door still closes like a vault, and when you drive it, you know it is special. I think these and many other reasons are why the 996 is going to be the deal of the century pretty soon, and the 993 is gonna become increasingly more desirable.

I for one am glad that the 996 is falling off...the first one is see in sub 20k asking price (which I believe will happen within the next 2 years) is gonna be track bait!!!! :)

Porsches are good cars, Ferrari is ART on WHEELS

To a tiny tiny fraction of .001 percent of the population some Ferrari cars can equal art.

They perform on the same level, and provide great reliability and durability. For a fraction of the price. They may not have the same sex appeal, but they are still one of the best cars you can buy if you are looking for a sports car. To me that is worthy of plenty of hype.

Start in Novia Scotia and lets race to the southern tip of South America. I will take a stock 911 turbo and you can have any Ferrari you want. Hell, you can have any other car you want. Winner keeps both sets of keys. :D Any takers?...<waiting>...I didn't think so.

That isn't hype, that is respect.

Actually, I'll take a modified version of that wager:

    1. How about we go to any racetrack of your choice.

    2. Three laps. Timed or head-to-head, your choice.

    3. First one across the line keeps both sets of keys.

    What do you think?

Just thought I do my bit to add some fuel to this debate. Not saying these guys are credible or the end all to this discussion, but someone with some money somewhere is buying what they are selling as well as what porsche is selling.

I think he wants more track time and a free car, that what I think!

P.S. As far as I can tell, that isn't a fair fight anyway.

have you seen what a 911 turbo would do to a ferrari? its a joke. I'd take that bet anyday. Personally I think ferrari is the most overhyped auto out there. Their value is based 85% on the fact that people are willing to pay premiums for them even when it's not worth it. The whole "soul" and "sex appeal" is just another bull**** factor the ferrari guys like to throw in there to give addage to the fact they paid an extra 50k for the car than it's worth. Im not telling you where or how to spend your money, but Im just not a fan anymore, it's lost its "hype".

I would take Porsche over ferrari hands down any day.
