word this is totally true and i saw it with my own eyes recently. my mom's boyfriend's brother has a special ferrari called the enzo gt4 it is actually a prototype of the enzo and styled by BERTONE which is extra cost anyway he was rolling deep on the street and was totally destroyed by something called the 911 evoms 750 which means it has two evo motors in parallel. we are talking like two car lengths difference by the time they hit 200mph and my mom's boyfriend's brother afterwards was like what is that lol it totally destroyed my enzo ferrari gt4 and the guy was like maybe next time you'd like to meet me on pinks lol

With a baby effectively rendering my F550 useless as a "holiday car", I have been toying with the idea of going Porsche. Very briefly. I went to look at a 996 Turbo, and after getting past the bland, nondescript looks I looked inside - and I never thought about a 996 again. How can anyone consider that crass blob of cheap black plastic and third rate leather (with shapeless seats too) a cockpit worthy of a "supercar"? I was horrified that anyone would have even contemplated spending the money the car cost when new when an F360 was so much more sensual, elegant and sexy inside and outside.

Sure the 996TT is fast, but it's like an appliance for speed. Think washing machine on 1800rpm - no soul, no romance, no poetry, just raw performance.

I also looked at a GT3 with proper bucket seats - now I like that car much more: low, raw, stiff, it is a beast with a purpose: to be the best handling supercar on the planet. Unfortunately it is raw, stiff, uncompromising and practically useless apart for the odd blast on a track.

Now to the 997... forget the lowly Carrera models, they are far too slow for the modern Ferrari driver. I went to look at a 997TT and 997GT3, and for the first time I must say I'm impressed by a Porsche. Outside it's a rehash of the same old concept and you won't stand out in any crowd, and you certainly won't go take a peek into the garage before going to sleep (which you DO when you have a Ferrari...). But inside, it's at last worthy of its price (it's only taken Porsche 40 years...): all-round stitched leather "Ferrari style", excellent detailing, excellent seats and excellent materials everywhere. Finally the horrible "boxstery" black plastic has been banned! But the downside? A 997TT costs like an F430. And so does the GT3, when you spec it right. And if a Porsche costs like a Ferrari.... what's the point?

    andre,

as a ferrari and porsche owner, i seriously do not know how respond to your comment/position.

was it to be complimentary to porsche or did you just ***** all over 40 years of their building the WORLDS winningest production based and racing cars EVER?

i am not trying to incite a riot or a war of words but you are not making much sense in any of your comparisons and w/ you starting in a 550 and getting out for the reasons stated, only ferrari or maserati has what you need to fit the bill. i think anything porsche offers new or older would be the cayanne.

if you get the turbo version, it will provide a similar performance level as you are used to in the 550.

Porsches in no way compete with the opulence of a Ferrari. I certainly don't think so. But...

A few years back at the Concorso Italiano in Pebble Beach:

I saw the "cloth" seats in an F50 pilling badly, which made it look like total you-know-what. And I have read lots of posts about Ferrari interiors melting in the sun, leather wearing quickly, wear points developing on the interior, etc, etc. While they may look good, that doesn't mean they are inherently superior.

Did I mention another F50 owner tried to start his car to thrill the audience? After 10 minutes of being embarrased by it not starting, he gave up.

I am not trying to be rude, just saying each brand has its strengths and weaknesses. People in glass houses should not throw rocks. To each their own. And a few more cliches for good measure. :)

The 997 Carrera S does 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, how is that too slow for the modern Ferrari driver again? Faster than a 360 challenge and right there with a 430! Where is the "lowly" part??

You won't get a date or a place. Hardly a brain between them and they already know the score, I wonder who's shoulder they've been looking over?

To choose an entire manufacturers fleet over another's when they both have been around for several decades producing the most sought after cars on the planet is totally moronic!

But what about the drive? You haven't said anything about that. So far you're just basing your opinion on looks. IIRC the new 997TT will handle a 430 like a school yard bully handles a mathlete. Or did you just kick the tires and not turn the key?

Like I said, date and time.

I'd even take a trip to that so-called track you have down there. What's it called again? No Problem? I forgot, that's more like a go-kart track.

How about Barber? Can you make it there?

I love this post. It is written in the same breathless style as the 'Ninja's are awesome' prose:
"Ninjas can kill anyone they want! Ninjas cut off heads ALL the time and don't even think twice about it. These guys are so crazy and awesome that they flip out ALL the time. I heard that there was this ninja who was eating at a diner. And when some dude dropped a spoon the ninja killed the whole town. My friend Mark said that he saw a ninja totally uppercut some kid just because the kid opened a window."

    Keep 'em coming.
Bill Hart (who has owned a few ferraris and porsches and likes both marques).

A new 997TT costing like an F430? lThat isn't even close to true, is it?

And I am 98% sure BrightSizeLife was making fun; not a serious word in there.

Enjoy life and driving these awesome machines we have the rare privilege to own, no matter which side of this F-car/P-car fence you sit on.

For me, the 997tt is the king of the overall capability P-car heap, but the GT3 has it going on. And don't even talk to me about an RS. Homina homina.
