Guys,

To make a long story short. Got caught today speeding on the highway. 100mph in a 55mph zone. Cop gave me a ticket with court date.
Any sugestions ??? Should I fight ticket at court ??? Should I get a lawyer ??? Would that help ?? I'm sure someone out there had the same problem before.

Thanks for any help.

Bummer. Worse, it may have some very serious penalties and repercussions for your driving career and insurance.

A word of advice is to take this matter very seriously and consult local counsel in that jurisdiction. If you are in disbelief, do a search. There are numerous stories of folks who've gone to jail for speeds like this.

That said, you should really move your post to the regional section. The General Forum is not the place.

Good Luck,

CW

I'd get a lawyer for that one. Not sure about NC laws, but in FL that would get you automatic reckless driving as well...

Calif code allows the P.O. to put you in jail "on the spot" for speeds in excess of 100 mph! You are lucky.

Need to know your traffic system.

If it's a point system, you'll need traffic school to get that off, or you'll see a healthy spike in your insurance for 3 years!

Many people try and find a loophole in how the cop calculated the speed, whether it be radar or just guessing. If he nailed you with radar, well good luck.

Sorry to hear about it. A lot depends on prior history in the eyes of the court. What about the specifics? Where, when, traffic, conditions, etc. Talk to an attorney... you don't want a reckless conviction. Plead to a lesser account, get it reduced, etc. - obvious options when working with the DA or who ever. How do you "educate the court" that 100 in an F-car = 55 in an ordinary car?

To get to 100 in a Ferrari you only need to shift once. At 100 your only at half your top speed, at 55/60 most cars are already at half their top speed. In about the same time it take most cars to get to 60 you are already at 100.

A lot of factors come into play with your State. Google around and see what options you have. The system there may be a kangaroo court so you'd be wasting time and money trying to fight it. OTOH, fighting it is always the best option because most people just roll over and they expect that. Good luck.

Agreed. Depending on state law you could be into suspended licence territory. If you can just pay a fine, great. But your insurance company won't be showing you much love. I would see about getting the speed reduced, if you can.

Uh... bad move.

Anyway, it's time for another poll on red Ferraris versus black or grigio...

Go to court. I was caught doing 40mph+ 5am Sunday mourning on road running along the highway (I-595). I paid the lawyer fifty bucks and it was thrown out months later.

That is true about FL. I almost got charged with reckless, but since I cooperated and did not try to run he just gave me the regular ticket.

Yeah, that's a bright idea.

I haven't seen the Ferrari model yet (Modena or otherwise) that can outrun a police radio.

How about a search? There are literally hundreds of threads on here that touch on this subject, along with your thread in the NC section.

THEY all say the SAME THING.. GET A LAWYER. NOW!!

Good luck with that ticket. You're gonna need some.
