I'll just let you continue making a fool of yourself - no need to assist in any way, as you do such a good job of showing your own idiocy and ignorance.

I want to try to steer clear of name calling, but what is amazing is that some 911 lovers won't admit what Porsche has already admitted; with an equal engine, the mid-engined platform will be faster.

Funny, that fact always gets ignored as the more defensive 911 owners try to denigrate the 986/987's capabilities.

this is actually a discussion that has been had since the days of the 914/6. if you recall, the 914/6 was actually quicker than the 911 and there was some concern that the 911 faithful would be disenfranchised.

that said, on a track like lime rock...a cayman or boxster s would run close to a 997 or turbo. at the glen where there is a hp component...the 997 or turbo would leave the other p-cars for dead. so in the end...you are both right!

lets hope the boxster/cayman receives a better fate than the 914/6. leave them power hungry if you have to (compared to the 911s), just don't kill them!

This bit from another board talking about racing Caymans:
Are you listening, Porsche? Race it, and they (the customers) will come. :D

i think they (boxters and cayman) will fine! there now seems enough room for all of them.

You obviously are such the racing expert, Mr. 5 post wonder. Damn you Boxster guys are defensive.....your cars are the pinnicle of all that is greatness.

Just got back from watching Redline. Saw a CGT, a couple of Turbos.......but no Boxster....how could they make a high performance car movie with no Boxster?

Boxster guys don't throw rocks, 911 guys throw rocks. Wonder why they feel compelled? ;)

CGT is mid-engined...hmmmm. lol Imagine if Porsche sunk turbo-level tech into a Cayman/Boxster platform. O...M...G. Can you say "world beater"? I thought you could :D

I would love to hear Redline doesn't suck, but I am guessing it does. Review?

And yes, I am stuck on this beautiful day, doing work / home work. Trying to get a master's as a full time worker and dad is a royal PAIN!

Everyone needs to drop the mud slinging on this thread. I don't care who started it or why, but if it continues we will have some more Fchat vacations and the thread will be closed.

You obviously don't know who Alex is, or what type of cars he drives. If his cars leaks oil and his engine is about to explode you should be willing race him, right?

    Neil,

Never have I EVER seen someone conduct themself on Fchat like you have. You are an absolute disgrace to the Fchat community. You are a black eye. The lack of respect for so many members who not only treated you with respect, but continued to show you respect even after you started to verbally assault them, is disgusting. What is even scarier is your completely lack of control. What were you thinking!? It would benefit the community if you stayed away for a while, even after your ban has been lifted. You have many people to apologize to. I'd suggest you start by apologizing to yourself for acting like a jackass.

Third, The track is Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the date is May 16th 10am and below is a photo of what you are going to see for a split second before realizing that you guys just lost your F40!! I am going to require FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE on both cars (I will pay for this) just incase you decide to put the car in the wall and use some lame excuse why you did not win! PM me your e-mail so I can send you the escrow info and contract..I look forward in hearing from you shortly....or shut the door on your way out of here!

You haven't seen anything until you go on a 993 forum and tell them you happily drive a water-cooled Porsche

I think I've heard of guys wedging turbo engines into a Boxster. Like most cars, they can be made VERY fast but they didn't come that way from the factory

You know after everything I've read (film wasn't screened for critics, garnered an unprecidented 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the production company declaring bankruptcy this week over the poor performance of this movie, and the Producer Daniel Sadek begging people on my space to invade movie forums and write positive reviews) I just had to see it :)

Went to a 3:00 showing. Movie (for some reason) was in the largest theater in the multiplex, and hosted myself and 14 other curious spectators (yeah, I counted). Actually, the movie was OK....I guess my expectations were low. The cars rocked of course, many hot girls (that Nadia chick is just amazing.....unless she is singing), story was pretty formulaic, the acting was kind of weak.

But I've seen worse.....even this year (Happily N'ever After.....the things we do for kids). I'm OK with saying car guys should see it. It was like the F&F movies with better cars, better girls, worse casting.

I hear ya........did the same thing to get an MBA a few years ago, good luck to you.

Even the darkest recesses of air-cooled religious fervor will eventually be permeated by the light...uh, or is that water? lol They ain't going back, boys. Time to move on with life. :D Or settle for an aging car. What's done is done. Yadda yadda yadda. The air cooled motors may very well be vastly superior...but no amount of wishing is going to make Porsche revert. To get the HP figures needed to compete with the other NA motors (and keep them cool), they had to go to water. Done deal.

Really? A turbo motor? Everyone I have spoken to says you have to do major body (frame?) mods to get a turbo or GT3 motor in a 986/987 chassis. Now the RUF kompressor motor is another story... :) I have a 3.6L X51 in mine, but I can't begin to imagine what a 400 HP+ (at the wheels, according to RUF) boxster/cayman would be like. Wheeeee!

You can keep the turbo motor...but I would sell a major appendage for a Boxster with a GT3 motor in it. I am just an NA kind of guy.

Thanks man, I can use it. My arse is glued to this chair for the entire weekend. I did stop long enough to listen to the Spyder win overall (again!) in Houston, but the RSRs lost bady to Salo again. Can anyone campaign a Cayman, PLEASE! ;)

I think that porches are made for speed and performance...period...
Ferrari's have a wonderfully eclectic mix of performance, style, and sex appeal...but....as far as the performance goes...just doesnt really touch Porsche...

As for the Porsche Vs Ferrari on the track...are ya kidding me???

Short of equal challenge cars/cup cars...ill take the Pcar rhomping the Fcar any day given moderately similar stats...but...the Ferrari will most definitely sound and look "better" while losing...thats for sure...

It is not only how fast you go, but also how you go fast., Total driving expeience from engine sound to feedback. Would I prefer a ferrari 430 sure, would it be quicker than a GT3 dont know. But getting a new Ferrari is impossible, most of them are poseur specials, red tan leather sheilds and unobtainable unless you want to pay a flipper over sticker for a 6mos old one.
And no you cant even put down a deposit for delivery years from now, its a closed game between dealers and favored "flipper" clients.

A GT3 has a classic yet uninspired design, a great motor, is charismatic and will hold up on the track, and yest you can actuly buy one, so that is what I am getting, and will keepm the boxer for my Italian charisma experince.

To me regular 997's etc are great evryday commuter sporty cars, these are mass produced items refined with great performance, the lexus of spotscars.

I was standing on the street in london the other day. Heard the diesel noise of a cab, next to it was a boxeter, no sound. When the boxter drove past me it sounded as insirational as a hoover. I think that says it all, I am sure they handle great, but the motor sound and experience is "clinical", same with the design, it looks like a carrying case for a diaphragm. The original concept car promised so much but porche toned it down for mass market, and given the sales it was probably a good business decision, so miss and mr everyday could and would buy one. I am sure that there is a great car lurking in there with fantastic handling, but specs are only part of the equation, driving expreiince, ie sensory feedback is where the boxter loses it. The looks land the styling bland, the motor expience, noise, power delivery, is somehow bland too.

An M3 has a more inspireational motor more raw even if it is fractionaly slower. And there is no reason that a boxter cannot have some of the drama in looks and noise of say a 360, except it purposly was not designed that way, for reasons of cost(manufacture) and mass marketability. Yes its design it is meant to have mass everyday appeal, and that is what it is. Who cares which car is fractionaly quicker round a track, which one would you rather drive round a track(355) or up along a beautiful coastal road for fun(even a 328), in that case it is a F-car., And no I am not biased, for beating around the track I am getting the GT3, but that is the one really charismatic car they make. The turbo may be quick, but that is its one major attribute, once again an anoydyne unexciting car, a far cry from the bulldog 930.

Now that prodrive owns aston maybe we will finally see a real ferrari competitior. They already have the stunning design, more classy tha an f-car too. Now if they can get a real motor and a bit more edge to the vantage we will have an comprehensive alternative to the f-car.

I agree with pretty much everything you said with one exception...I think the Turbo & GT3 are nice looking cars. I enjoy the design, and I like the fact that they look so "focused" for their intended purpose. Nothing on that car looks out of place or unecessary...everthing has a purpose. As for the design, it can be argued that it is "dated"...afterall, as it sits today, it is little more than a variation of the original 40 y/o design. Personally, I am in the camp that each time there is a redesign (like it or not, agree with it or not), they have improved a little more on the shape and the function of the 911. If you ever look at the generations of the Turbos side by side you will see what I mean. (Although personally I think the pinnicle of Porsche design was the 930, but alas, I am biased! ;) )

As for Ferrari, you are correct...the are gorgeous cars that sound amazing whether they are winning or losing!!! Their designs become increasingly more interesting with each model, and they are indeed in most cases sex on wheels.

As someone stated earlier, we are talking about two great marques that arrive at the same goal in different ways.
