I ve own the 308 V12 Daytona engine and sold it to Germany more than 10 years ago Where is the car today ?
Hi there, I bought a 308 GTB V12 some years ago. The car was not quite up to par, and we postponed restoration due to other projects. Today, the car is currently undergoing a thorough restoration and belongs to a friend of mine here in Germany to whom I sold it last year. Should be quite a project! cheers, Jens
It should be mentioned that the engine block is indeed from a daytona, the heads are from a 365 GT 2+2 - daytona heads would not fit into the enginebay without major modifications to the firewall. Interesting combination which seems to work though.
I remember seeing a V12 308 in a garage in Hertfordshire, England some 20 years ago. I was looking at a TVR 420SEAC at the time and found the Ferrari in a corner. It looked pretty up together at that time, but unfortunately I remember no more details. Wonder if it was the same car? Surely can;t be too many V12 conversions? Robert
What's most amazing is someone was able to locate his old car in another country in about an hour. (thanks, Mr. Internet)
I've been thinking about this car and its creation by David P. Goldsmith since reading about it in 1985 in the August ROAD & TRACK magazine. Then, quite by chance a few weeks ago I saw and bought the how-to-manual written by the author/engineer/first owner, Mr. Goldsmith, on eBay. It is a most detailed, interesting and ambitious undertaking, all of which which makes for fascinating reading. I'm not sure I'll ever do anything with these detailed instructions or plans, but I enjoy the brains, daring and accomplishment that it represents. Well worth the $168 that I spent on this one of a kind monograph. I hope that the present owner of this unique Ferrari gets it back on the road and reports back to our Fchat group. Some driving impressions and pictures would be most welcome. Also, should it ever be offered for sale, I'm very interested--anytime, just send me a PM. Ricardo
is this the road and track car? i remember getting the issue and lusting after the ca also!! it looked fantastic w/ the front spoiler and the daytona wheels. what a great car!!!!
mansell ferrari put a 412 engine in a 308 think it was blue i have heard of two in the uk the earl of bath also had one
308's are cheap.....412's are cheap....hmmmmm...a match made in heaven...the time is right....let's see a V12 Mondial....or v12 308 Dino those would be fine road and track cars... ( this is what "monster garage" should be installing in 308s instead off pasta makers...insulting!)
How did a Fchat regular like you miss this?!?! http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95085&highlight=monster+garage
Sheeeeeeesh!!! I go away for a couple months on an assignment and when I come back they are turning 308s into pasta machines!! What has the world come to???
The goldsmith conversion is not a light under taking. Even with his manual, there is still A TON of fit, shape, fit, shape, fit, shape going on. His manual is good, but no where near enough detail to make this an easy thing. I'm not sure the 412 engine will fit.
engineering invoved...in fact Enzo himself did a turbo 308 (GTO) not a v12....but the economics are real good here....get a ratty 400 automatic ( probably 17K tops....match with a 308 with engine fire ( probably 15K tops)
I have a GT4 and have just bought a V12 engine from a 400i. Does anyone know what gearbox previous conversions used?
When I first moved to Atlanta, and took my car to Ferrari of Atlanta ... over in Tucker... they had a 308 with a V-12 motor there... semeed like it had tons of issues... and the owner had not paid them for the engine rebuild ... I dont know what ever happend to that car... it was a tight tight fit!!! and really only would give 40-50 hp more at the most? it would sound much nicer!
All I could find with a quick Google was this: (not too helpful, unfortunately) http://members.samnet.net/alfaguy/Ferrari/Article/308_V12_Article_Page_2.htm
