It's a replica of ZZ Tops' GTO Spyder that was commissioned on a 250GT. So yes Ferrari never made a GTO Spider, but 2 have been built ... that are not replicas but custom cars.

There are threads about that car on this site somewhere. Here's one ... so IMO this car is a replica :D

i guess that might more correctly be called a GTO styled 250 gt roadster or spyder then.

i agree how do you do a replica of something never built by the factory.

I understood your point as did Ed Long (I quote: not a copy of anything), but 2 custom cars were actually made like this ... now I guess 3 :).

I guess the eBay ad should really have said:

Replica of ZZ Tops custom made convertible 250 GTO Ferrari, OR
Custom car, a 250 GTO Spyder concept.

To be perdantic (because work is boring), if I made a 1 off special and then somebody decided that 'heck that is cool' and made a copy of it, what would that copy be called? ...

    G'day Pete!

I think that it still would be called a replica, because it has a predessessor, that predates it, no matter if it is authentic or a copy of a one of a kind mistake.

Pete, where are you at in Sydney? I have family there, in Hurstville, Sylvania, and Rockdale. There is one in Blake or Black Hurst, they are moving. I almost joined a Yacht Club, in St. Kilda's. I think it was St. Georges Motorboat Club, something like that. My Cousin, belongs and I had a lot of fun there. Cheers Mate!

LOL, replica or number 2, piece of rubbish it's a tough one. Possibly time would affect the name too, ie. if it was made straight away then Number 2 makes more sense, but if years after then I'm thinking replica :D

That car was made for Frank Beard.

I had an interest in it, and Frank told the maker that if I wanted it, I could have it and he would wait for another one to be made.

As I recall, this was about 10 years ago, the price was about $250K.

The builder, though I won't mention his name, made the car to Ferrari specs., and he has made many recreations that can be so exact, that the original mfgs. can't tell if they're the real McCoy.

Fortunately, they are sold as recreations and that keeps him out of trouble.

From the description on Ebay, there isn't anything Ferrari about this car with the exception of the body which is a copy of a copy of a GTO.

Thanks Pete, Castle Hill, I'll buy you a "cold one", if I ever return, Mate.

Yes I follow your logic, and dretceterini, said "craplica", which is true, also. :)
An abstact facsimile, if created from a "notion", rather than the reality of an actual car? No, that would be a prototype?
Then a genetic mistake or an abberation? POS in other words? :)

Give me an honest POS like this one any time over that pseudo fake GTO monstruosity.

I am thoroughly puzzled as to how anybody could have the bad taste and historical lack of respect to spend time and money on those things.

I am also puzzled as to the constant postings in the VINTAGE section about cars that are not, and cannot be called, Ferraris.

If this discussion was to be moved, wouldn't it be a replica of this one?

Sorry I posted this. I'll pray for all the pygmies on New Guinea.

I don't think we want continuations...like the 47th generation of the AC Cobra...or is it 48th now?
