Are you looking for above ground or built in? What kind of application are you planning to use it for? Do you have neighbors?

Well, I was thinking built in to I could get certain cars on it without scraping but cost wise I'm sure above is cheaper. Application. I plan on using it as a income earning machine also. Neighbors. Yes, one. Don't know them yet as the house is for sale.

Because there is not one in town and I think I can make some money with it.

A dyno forum, Man, I love the Internet!

Greg, cool idea, just check your local zoning and building dept for operational business use. Insurance etc.. would be a good idea. Private property isn't so private these days anymore.

what about the portable ones, then you could take them to 'events'.

I am a Used Auto Dealer, so I have Garage Liabilty Insurance, do you think that would cover a dyno with a customers car on it?

A Dynapack would be best for what you have in mind. The only person I know of who has a full, in-ground chassis dyno for personal use is Jay Leno. A Dynapack would be cheaper, but I think they are still 90kUS.

dyno? thought they were extinct? har...har...har...? ok I know bad joke.

With regards to the taking it to events suggestion, I remember a meet a few years ago that someone decided to bring a portable dyno that ended up getting a 700hp straight pipes Camaro strapped onto it, which effectively ended that meet for good.
