We showed up at about 10:30 on Sat. Went into the auction tent and saw an unbelievable amount of money change hands. I think the cheapest bicycle sold for 2k and the Schwinn Corvette sold for $4500 or $4750. The Maserati 123CC scooter sold for 9K. The Cushmans sold for 6K each, I think.
I like Jim E. had to underwrite the national debt. So not much available cash.

IRS done broke me too. Hmm, that's a common trend.

Three things I was interested in were the illuminated Ferrari signs, bars, or the Grand Prix trophy. Looks like the signs were going for $5k+ and I didn't see the GP trophy online, but the lesser trophies were at $3k. Will be interesting to see the results, I can already tell you I'm going to go ape over how much someone paid for the two repro Ferraris (TR and 212). I wouldn't have those in my garage for $100, those are a blasphemy to Ferrari.

That's the great thing about a free country, you only have to put in your garage what you want in your garage. TR went for $310+10%, added to a significant collection of vintage Ferrari. Barchetta was much less, I think ~$157+10%. Both beautiful cars.

Did anyone come home with anything? I ran through all the Ebay listings, some of the prices were amazing, others were so low it couldn't be explained.

Hey Phil, I saw your brother on TV last night talking to Dale Hansen. It HAD to be your brother.

There was one guy buying up 1/2 the memoribilia, so I expect to see it on ebay again soon. On the helmet and caps, only the caps were signed.

That was probably my cousin Brooks Cullum who is chairmen of the "Nelson" this year. He helped run Tom Thumb, and obviously was from the other side of the tracks than the ditchdigging Cullum's. Closest I got to that group was package boy/ checker at Hillcrest and NW Highway store # 11.

Those prices are about right, actually I thought they would go a little higher because they didn't overly volunteer they were recreations and a real Ferrari was murdered in the process. James at Norwoods worked on the TR a few years back and said it is the nicest repro he's ever seen.

I didn't know until this latest trip that they were recreations. I thought the catalogue spelled it out well on all the cars. They certainly are not in the "kit car" category, and I know the TR was allowed in the California "Mille" and several other events. At least it was built in Italy.

Also met John Ridings Lee, a large collector here in Dallas, there. I think he has won at the Pebble Beach Historics before. He said nobody calls him to see his cars, so maybe we can get a group up to see them later this year.

The TR was just beautiful, their pictures really didn't do it justice. I'm sure James has seen a lot of reproductions, but I agree, this one was very special.

Ponder's mechanic started it up Friday morning. I defy you to drive this car and say that a rusty old PF's life was lost in vain. Merely destined to a higher calling. I regretted not bidding more, until I talked with the buyer and learned that he was nowhere near his upper limit.

Don't forget I was a Hillcrest (Little Isreal- Hebrew High) graduate, not a "parkie", as my kids call it. Just got there as soon as I could.

Yes we had the Katy RR tracks running where the tollroad is now. My great Aunt had an apartment right next to the track, and would go out to greet a lot of the trains, and wave at the conductors front and rear. Not sure she didn't have a fling with one.

I think he was at Bob Smith's place a few years ago during an FCA tour, showing some of his cars that were headed for Pebble.

yes, John Ridings Lee one of Bob's biggest clients. I never even thought of asking him, those guys are just in an entirely different league. Figured they are too busy going around the world and last thing they want to do is take a security risk with the local "club". On the other hand Gene was really nice and accommodating to show his collection to us. Maybe they aren't so unreachable and I can understand how they wait for someone to ask instead of volunteering a tour.

The initial online listing (about time of our tour) had nothing about them being recreations.

To each their own, I'm not into fake watches or fake boobs either.
