Search the extensively posted archives of the cars and you may come to same conclusion that many others have that the driver eerily resembles the old man himself.

It may be blasphemous to post a non-P4/5 quesiton here, but can anyone confirm if the Black Mercedes in the 2nd column, 7th row is Ralph Lauren's SSK "Count Trossi" car? It certainly looks like it.

    Jim,

For fun, I was re-reading the first few pages of this thread (knowing now what the car looks like it is amazing how up front you were in the first few pages on what was to come), and you mentioned that the Discovery Channel was possibly going to be doing a show on the development of the P 4/5. I am wondering what ever came of that and if there will ever be a show on the car (presuming that footage had to have been taken prior to the stage you made the comment).

    Thank you.

The same producer that did the Documentry on the Birdcage was interested but in the end the car was too far along at that point.

    Those pics are stunning!

Too bad a documentary didn't happen on the car, that would have been amazing.

That shot is ridiculous. Having those two cars together in the same viewfinder is a real treat. But something just occurred to me. You said it was 50 years to the day that the car was delivered to Count Trossi. Did he not buy it new? I thought the car was a 1931, which is 76 years ago, how does that math work?

Matt - It was originally delivered, but the Count had it rebodied at a later date. It was rebodied in England, but it is unknown who did the fabrication. I think the 50-year date refers to when the car was delivered with it's current body.

Now, for the other question... This car was delivered post-war, correct? I think it was manufactured pre-war, but didn't make it out of the factory until a later date.

    Peter

PS - was Ralph Lauren there with the car? He has mentioned that it is his favorite, and will never sell it (although I don't think he has ever sold a single car).

    Hi

Unfortunately he wasn't there. The car has an interesting history which I think is on the Villa d' Este web site.

Ralph told me that he has never sold a car, but, he gave my father his personal Vanquish for his birthday. Here's a picture of the nameplate in the doorsill. Pardon the crappy picture, it reads "V12 Vanquish Handbuilt in England for Ralph Lauren"

When we went to go pick it up from him, he also gave me a ride in his McLaren F1 LM, which was just about the scariest ride of my life.

When you see him next time, tell him I like his clothes :). McLaren F1 has to be one of the best cars of all time, to get a ride is amazing, to get a ride in an LM is frickin amazing, and to be driven by Ralph Lauren is worthy of being the proudest moment in most people's lives.
Another question. Does he wear his own clothes?

yeah he wears his own clothes sometimes. he wears other stuff too. He took it up a little over 200 in the LM. I love that car because it's so loud you have to wear air-traffic controller headphones to talk to each other. Here's a shot I took of the LM when I was out there. The tall guy is my dad, and the little guy is RL

    Over 200???? Thats insane!

You are a very lucky man. I would die for a ride in his LM! (He doesn't have the LM anymore though, right?)

It's possible. The guy who lives across the street from him, Gary Shavitz, has two F1's as well, which makes a total of 5 F1's on a single block in Bedford.
