My wonderful brother decided to "launch" my car up a parking ramp. We heard a big bang and when we parked to survey the damage, to my dismal, I found a few cracks (I was hoping that I would've gotten away with just damage to the skip plates). Would the fix require a bumper-off or -on solution? I assume it would also involve a repaint.

First pic is view from bottom. You can see the skip plate almost untouched and the crack going to the back. The second pic is of a smaller crack where the lower part meets the upper part (you can see the edge of the foglamp in the upper left)

I was rather surprised that the bumper is made out of fiberglass as most cars today, even the cheapo ones, use polyurethane which would've handled the hit better.

It'll be awhile before I hand the 348 keys to anyone! I guess I can only blame myself for this one even though I'm still miffed at my brother.

Take it off, it's no a big job and it will be a lot easier to work with on tressels or a bench.

Would be ALOT easier to get that fixed on the bench. So best to remove it mate. :)
My brother damaged my front spoiler. :( My baby nephew GG's ride on toy was stuck under the front spoiler and my dumb ass brother drove the car in the garage with that jammed under there. Only cracked the paint off and it is repairable on the car. Was getting it repainted on the 1st May, but I am getting my wheels refinished 1st, so will paint in another few weeks. :):)

Thanks guys. Hopefully it wouldn't cost to much to patch is up.

When did Ferrari switch to polyurethane bumpers? Does the F355 have 'em? My '95 993 had them, and so did my '87 Alfa Milano/75 IIRC. Has anyone come up with aftermarket PU bumpers for the 348 (can't imagine a big market so wouldn't be surprised if there aren't any)?

Gotta love having brothers. You give 'em the keys so that they can taste the thrill of driving the car and then they f**k it up. Then you kick yourself for being "nice"

Remove it and have it repaired. It is very heavy, so ask your brother to hold it when you loose the bolts. Maybe it will fall onto his toes.

No skid plate in the world could have saved the bumper from that kind of impact. :( That seriously stinks. At least it wasn't metal... fiberglass is easy.

There's a debate regharding which 348's have Fg bumpers and which Have PU - I think all US cars have fiberglass. the 355's, 360, 430, 550 all have rigid fiberglass (although not hand-laid after '95) bumpers. The porsche you're referring to has a bumper cover in PU - the actual bumper is behind it. The US 348's have a heavy rigid fiberglass bump0er - no cover.

Remove it to fix, like everyone else said. Find someone who fixes boats - my opinion of body shops that "do fiberglass" is very low - they almost always use polyester resin to fix it, which is inappropriate, even though that's what it was made from originally.

What would something like that cost to fix & match paint quality?
