With all the fun that is going on in the U.S with the premiums and unavailability of new 430s and 599s I was wondering about the past. I know that it has been discussed in snippets here and there, but I was wondering if we could get it condensed into one place. I'm not trying to use past information and apply it to the current models just trying to see how things have gone as new models have been introduced. I've never really followed in the past so I don't know how things went down for the 550/575, 360, 355 and the rest.

    So maybe something like this:

    Example:

    F430 coupe
Professional Reviews: Great car, great feel!
    Personal experience:N/A
    Premium when released:100k
Time period until used is car available at MSRP:2 years
How long until new customer could walk in and order one: Never

You also have to factor in Initial or First Reaction when photos are released.

You'd be amazed at what percentage of the new models cause wailing and gnashing of teeth - and not in a good way.

That would be interesting too! I can imagine the change from 355 to 360 caused a stir.

I set out to buy my first Ferrari recently and discovered some of the key points outlined at the beginning of this thread. I ended up with a 2003 360 Modena F1 at about MSRP! To put things in perspective, my wife recently traded in her 2004 Honda Accord at only 50% of the original value.

Here's a 2002 article with the 360's MSRP at that time:

Fortunately for those who cannot get a new F430 at MSRP or pay the huge premium in the used market, the 430 is stylistically a very disappointing replacement of the 360. So I'm very happy with my 360.

Your last paragraph parallels exactly my feelings when I first saw a new 430 up close. I, too, had a 360 at the time.
