I plan on driving from Denver to Las Vegas. Mapquest says it is an 11hr 13min drive taking I-70 and I-15. Has anyone made this drive and was it 11 hours? If I didn't want to drive it in one day is there a place to stop to break up the drive in to 2 days?

I drove from Mesquite NV to BV yesterday. Mesquite is about 70 miles north of LV and BV is about 50 miles closer than Denver. I was pulling a trailer with a car so maximum speed about 70 and frequent gas stops. It took just short of 12 hours. A car would be quicker of course but you have another 125 miles. 11-12 hours sounds about right.

I've driven it a couple times. The first time in my Navigator it took just about 11 hours. In my 750 I made it in a little under 9 hours. It's a pretty okay drive to do in one day, especially if you haven't done it before because its more interesting (IMO).

It is a nice 1 day without pushing too hard if you take I-70 and I-15. You can make good time through Utah but be on the watch for the State Patrol. I saw a few of them, traveling in pairs with 1 a few minutes behind the other. When you catch I-15, the traffic gets a lot heavier but flows.

You can easily make it a wonderful 2 day drive, and if you do, I might suggest taking an alt route ... like going through the Southern part of Utah. Moab would be a nice stop.

Before I left, printed out the common places for speedtraps - http://www.speedtrap.org/speedtraps/stetlist.asp

    Enjoy the drive!

Agree about Southern Utah. Just got back from a road trip that involved Vegas x2. Zion, Bryce, Gran Escalante, etc. are nice this time of year.

It isn't bad at all for a one day drive. Now if you want a really short trip, the fastest I have ever heard from Evergreen to the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas (770 miles) is in 5 hours 37 minutes!

That would be an average of 140 with stops. Allowing a little time for stops and the driving speed average would be 150+. Even if someone is stuipid enough to drive on a public road that fast, it would not be possible with traffic on the road, rough spots, corners, etc.

That is what I thought, but that is what Berry said he did in a Diablo Roadster...

Got up early, ate breakfast, left Glenwood Springs and was in Vegas in time for lunch, BUT......... watch the Utah patrol along I 15 from Beaver to St George and for the occasional SURPRISE from Grand Junction to Green River. That's the easy part. Once you're in LV the hard part starts. (but you can always take the Greyhound back!)
