MV was the fastest bike in the world, for years and years, and from Italy for decades. Current production MV is THE fastest stock 1000cc on the planet,299kmh http://www.mvagusta.net/newsarticle/49/mv-agusta-sets-bonneville-land-speed-record/ Just released 4FCC [now punched out to 1078cc] has been electronic speed limited to 315kmh.. Big fours coming out from Ducati [GP replica] and Aprilia, Italians really starting to get into the 4's BIG time, MV's speed-crown wont be for long [Not fussed if the Italians keep passing it between each other] Ducatis are superb, MV are the next level, its hard to make a valid comparison, MV has NOTHING to prove, it has pedigree and class. Ducati are the *new* kid on the block, and making fantastic inroads in all fields. Like children, i dont pick one over the other, and LOVE them both. My list of things i want to see- Italian F1 World Champion [Yes, it has been that long, then some, shameful] in a Ferrari of course. MV Agusta back up top where it rightly belongs. Ciao M
I side with P squared on the MV's. John Allan had one as a "company car" when he was with W.H. LOWE. He has said that they were impossibe to sell (because they were ****e), they sounded lovely but not much else positive about 'em. I remember a friend of my old man's bought a road MV and some sort of full Monty race MV. I remember him trying to start the race bike and he had to resort to pulling the plugs and heating them with a blow torch (!) in order to light the fire. Still remember the sound 30yrs later.
I dug out these pics of the Norton fastback I had in the mid 70's. Great bike. Mine had the "combat" engine, so 11:1 comp, big valves and a hotter cam. A suprisingly quick and reliable bike, built before Norton went fat & easy for the US market. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well spotted! It was a Honda 9 coupe. Air cooled 1300cc, 4 carbs. 15 second quarter. My brother's car, I was never into ricers.
