Two weeks of ownership and I'm very frustrated

With all due respect, did you expect it to be any different? It's not every day that most of the people you will encounter will have a chance to "mess with" a F-car.

 

Rob, just tell them that they are going home in whatever they are driving and you are going home in a ferrari.now post some pics!!!! lol

 

Where do you live? Here I don't have that much problem because I find if you are traveling slightly faster then the flow(and know the route as far as cops) then you come up on people and catch them off guard. Also, anticipating traffic flow in the right lane and lane changes when you see an opening help to block others who are sneaking up. The guys I can see coming up behind, I usually lose. The other thing is here exotics aren't that big of a deal so you aren't as much of a target. The idiots that do want to race I just ignore. The time you drive is also important. Very early weekends are great when there are few people on the road. It is frustrating but there are ways to minimize hassles.

 

On Miami Beach, there is a causeway the connects the Beach to Miami over the bay. Its interesting to note that when I am crossing it and I see another F car or another F car sees me, we typically have a pleasant sprint accross - Not overly aggresive, just the right speed to get the thrill of the crossing. It typically ends on the other side with a nod of satisfaction or a shake of the hand hello. I actually find this to be the case with Porsche's as well.

When I am going over and other cars see me, Mustangs, Corvettes, Z-cars, etc., the aggresive driving coming out from those cars just to race past me is enough to push everyone to the side of the road!

 

Get used to it. It's very tiring.

I just ignore them but watch to make sure they don't beump into me!

 

Mostly here in the midwest, they just hang out of car windows and point a cell phone at you, at least on the highway anyway.........

As stated before, you'll just have to get used to it.

For the particularly annoying people that want a chance to say they raced (and will probably tell their friends that they "beat") a ferrari, I just tell them that they aren't worth wasting the gas on.

 

It must be very fun to smoke virtually anything on the road when you have a 360 or 430 for a few years at least, right?

 

When other cars finally catch up to you at a light, just look over at them and say:

"Don't hate me cause I'm beautiful"

racing anyone on the hiway is stupid. my daily driver is a 997tt-the only thing that scares me is a kid with a $3000 rust box that wants to ride on your tail. all of us who are lucky enough to own these beautiful cars get enjoyment in owning and driving the best-why would you even want to engage someone in a mustang on the highway-even if they modded their car and it has 700hp in it, it is no ferrari.

 

Knock on wood!! I have yet to be challenged while driving the 360! Most people just wanna take pics or give a thumbs up. I live in the subs in Wash DC and there is no shortage of ricers and such around. Most of the kids are so taken off guard, I think, when they see the F-car, not an everyday occurence even in DC.

Funny thing, I was constantly bothered by other drivers when I had the M5??!!!!! Go figure! Usually guys in the Audi S4 or an AMG wanting to see if they could get the BMW.

Actually, I would not tell them anything at all. The key is to avoid eye contact. I have done this with every exotic I have ever had or driven. If you just avoid the eye contact, you have not acknowledged their challenge. They are morons, and you just have to act with more class. Making an offhanded and degrading comment to them that you have a Ferrari and they do not will probably just make them angry, and will support the stereotype that all exotic car owners are jerks.

 

Yep!! For some reason that is the thing to do around here. My brother commented on that when we were out driving the Diablo last week that people will literally hang halfway out the window at highway speeds to take pictures. The weekend before while driving back to Indianapolis from Columbus, Ohio I did have some tool in a Toyota Supra with temporary tags start weaving in and out of traffic to do a fly-by on me, then dove in front of me and slowed all the way down. He they kept trying to egg me on by accelerating and slowing down repeatedly. Finally he got fed up that I was ignoring him and tore of for an exit ramp at ridiculous speeds. Idiots are everywhere, you just have to know how to manage them.

 

Anytime you feel the urge to challenge one of these knuckleheads, just think of this guy and how screwed he is.

We are all competitive. You won the prize- a prize, a Ferrari!!! Think of those who rev their motors as paying homage.

As for me, at a stop light, I often "feel" the stare and (for fun) "inch forward". When the light changes the idiot next to me lays rubber and I am whatever car lengths behind smiling at the idiot. On freeways, I often see in my mirror someone trying to catch up. More often than not, it is a teenager or close, wanting to give a thumbs up. For those occassions when some imbecile wants to risk killing fellow citizens, I look over at him/her like the mental midget they are, and smile. Best

 

to be honest i hate racing people, unless they are some kid who's just started driving and thinks he's all that in his civic with a huuuge fart can and music turned up too loud, then you smoke them but otherwise it just makes me feel like an idiot, i usualy just let them flor it off the lights and watch and laugh as i cruise off.

 

I've always got cars coming up next to me, mostly EVO's & WRX's, blowing off their pop-offs. I usually look over and tell them how great their car looks and sounds and let them take off. I'm not going to be racing anyone on the streets, but it's a no win situation. If you race and win, well then you should because you have an expensive Ferrari. If you lose, then they tell all their friends how Ferrari's suck.

 

I honestly believe that the kids don't really want to race; they just want to see a Ferrari "get on it", which is something that they cannot see while reading the Dupont Registry. Sometimes kids roll up to me and act like they are challenging me, so I just rev the engine a couple of times and give the thumbs up, and they smile and drive off. Other times I'll have some sport bike guys ride up next to me on the freeway, revving their bikes. They totally know they can smoke me, they just want to hear that engine. I had a guy on a bike roll up to me, then cock his head and put his hand up to his ear, gesturing "I don't hear anything...." in a humorous sort of way. I smiled, dropped it down a couple of gears, nailed it for like three seconds, and the guy pulled up again and was giving the big thumbs up.
I had a kid in a Lexus SC430 who wouldn't leave me alone on the freeway, so after a couple of miles, I simply moved over to the slow lane and stopped on the shoulder for a minute. Problem solved.

 

I agree with the last two posts above - a lot of car people are fascinated by Ferraris, and just want to either hear the engine, or just watch the car take off. I've never gotten so much attention, from little old ladies in minivans to people on bicycles, and yes, people in all kinds of fast (or kind of fast) cars.

Sure, though - there are some people who want to get into a street race, and crazies who pull nonsense like cutting you off and so on. If someone is checking out my car, I just give them a wave, a smile, if I'm at a light I'll sometimes compliment their car (whatever it is), if it's clear they are into their car and also are digging on the Ferrari (or Lotus, heh).

Think of it this way - a lot of people are basically complimenting you and just want to get a piece of the magic. I had someone chat me up, and then smoke me late at night from a red light in a muscle car, and I made some noise just so he'd have the best story to tell - "I smoked a Ferrari!" (BTW, his car was way faster than mine, and I wasn't even gonna try past first gear anyway).

For any kind of serious race, though - the race track is the place, or just say no!
