Is $50K over list too much to pay for GT3 RS?

I want to see what people think about the RS. I found one but the seller wants $50K over invoice and I don't know if thats a little to much for a Porsche, even though its a very limited production car. I like Porsches and have a few, but Will I be able to get most of my money back in a few years? What is your opinion on this? Is this car in such great demand? (Now)

 

It is not worth it. Just wait for the prices to fall.

There is no GT2RS.
You might be meaning the GT2. There is no doubt that tht GT2 will be released, I heard this week an official annoncement will take place, but buyers already know this, the GT2 will not affect the GT3RS market.
What will affect it is if Porsche decides to build more than the 259 already allocated for NA. If they don't the prices may hold, but I wouldn't pay more than MSRO for it. I have one and I paid MSRP.

 

Charles, when have you honestly seen a Porsche hold its value or appreciate. take a look at the limited edition Carrera GT resale values and i think you have your answer.

 

I would probably post this question to the guys on Renn List who have more experience with this particular market.

 

Like most of these kinds of cars, the GT3RS has that "gotta have it now" factor in the market value. In the current market here (east coast, US) $50k over list is a bit higher than what I have seen/been offered. (I have heard a few around $40k) I personally would just wait it out a bit longer, if you can. The price of these will fall back to MSRP soon enough and then certainly will drop below. They aren't going to hold their over MSRP status like a Ferrari will. Good luck.

unless you sell it within months 50k will all be thrown away..more cars in 08 and even a facelift GT3/RS in 09 like with the 996 are expected

 

It is the most over priced car on the market today. Its performance is hardly better than the GT3 if at all and the 997TT with appropriate tires will spank it. The 997GT2 to be introduced shortly will make mince meat out of the RS. Finally the fast depreciating CGT will pull from the RS so badly that you would swear the RS was tied to a tree stump.

If you want the same for a lot less money buy a 997GT3 and buy a aftermarket RS tail for the back.

Comparing teh GT3 and the GT2 is like comparing apples and oranges. They are aimed towards 2 different kinds of people. The GT2 is more street oriented where the GT3 is more track oriented (yet still street legal)

 

At the risk of provoking another bash-o-rama, I think the GT2 and the more standard 911 Turbo fill a different market than the GT3 market. I'm also not sure-- here is where I might get into trouble-- that the GT2 will trounce the normally aspirated car on a track without a big straight stretch.
As to the RS being a rip-off, I resent the fact that US regulations prevent us from getting all the goodies- of course, you can buy most of them, aftermarket, at a price.
I had a 996 GT2 and it was an animal. It also depreciated just as fast as it drove.
I still love Porsches, though, but doubt I'd 'need' to have one badly enough to buy it at oversticker. Then again, if money isn't an issue, it isn't an issue. I might consider an earlier Euro RS car, or one of the more scarce Ruf cars, ie, not a conversion. That would probably hold value way better.

 

I don't think it will go higher and it is more likely to drop than stay flat. I wouldn't pay $50K over, but there are people that have and seem happy about it. The theories about what Porsche will do in '08 and '09 are all over the place and, as far as I can tell, the debates on Rennlist rage without any resolution. If you go by history, Porsche is more likely to overproduce the car which will cause a hit to values. On the other hand, there are some indications that Porsche AG isn't that happy about what happened to the C-GT and wants to change that. Your money, get what you like.

Is that a generic comment or in regards to a GT3 RS specifically? There are cars where $1 over invoice is too much and others where $100K over MSRP would be a lifetime deal (e.g. Enzo). MSRP is an artificial price point set by the manufacturer to achieve a certain business objective (profit percentage, market perception, etc). It helps to set the market price, but it doesn't determine it.

I think that isn't such a great price....but it depends on what you want. Is it some special colors or is it fully loaded? I am thinking that in a few years the price will decrease, but not by alot.

 

I have driven a GT3 RS and it is not worth the MSRP they are asking. IMHO it is overpriced by $25K.
