Autosport revealed that Ross Brawn is committed to determining his futre at Ferrari first before having any serious discussions with any other team. He is expected to meet with Jean Todt in July, and then decide.

He definetely does not want to come back as the technical director, but would consider Todt's current role, or a position that would help restructure the team.

I think it is a courtesy call.

I can't imagine Brawn returning to a Schumacher-less Ferrari. Why would he, there is nothing left for him to prove there. When he left, the team was a multiple World Champion, the team can only go downhill from here. Why preside over it?

If he returns to F1 at all, I would think it would be to take up a new challenge. Maybe he and Schumacher can buy out STR?

To be in Todt's current role is not enough of a challenge? With all due respect, I strongly disagree with you on this. To be the head of Ferrari F1 team is more difficult than to be the manager of the New York Yankees or the coach of the Lakers. After Senna's departure from McLaren, did they not win two more titles with Mika? After Prost retired from Williams, did they not win two more titles with Hill and Villenvue at the helm? While it is true that Schumacher's role in Ferrari can not be replaced, with the right combination of talent inside and outside of the cockpit, Ferrari will continue to win races and to go on to win more WC titles. In fact, wouldn't it be better for Brawn to win without Michael so that he can prove it to the world that he was just as important to the team as Michael and that he can win even without him, much like how Phil Jackson proven it without Jordan and Pippen with the combination of Kobe and Shaq.

Not everyone is as callous as you describe. Some people like familiar surroundings and faces. Some people actually have emotions and do act on their feelings. For Brawn to have lasted at Ferrari as long as he did goes beyond Schumacher, he likely appreciated his surroundings.

I would think F1 is a constant challenge just to be on top, so Brawn certainly knows what the future at Ferrari would bring to him. There is challenge to make Kimi Raikkonen a future multiple WDC. There is challenge to make Massa a WDC and have two WDC on the same team having won their titles while on that team.

Besides, there is something that resonates when you say you represent Ferrari as opposed to representing even McLaren. Could be Brawn is a Tifosi at heart.

I prefer to think he truly is partial to Ferrari.

I am not calling Brawn callous, I simpy recall him saying that he would retire from F1 when Schumacher did. It sounds to me like Brawn's allegience was more with Schumacher than with the team, his words not mine.

You assume that this job is even on the table.

Phil Jackson left Chicago, didn't he?

This is exactly my point. Which is why I think he is likelier to go somewhere other than Ferrari. Winning another title with Ferrari doesn't prove much a this point.

My opinion is based on the statements that Brawn has made in interviews. I have yet to hear him make any statement about returning to Ferrari other than he felt he owed them the first call. That to me sounds like nothing more than extending them a courtesy before he makes a move elsewhere.

My gut feel is that Brawn is as competitive as anyone in F1 and that for a guy like that, building a winner from an also-ran is a lot more satisfying than keeping a team on top once they have been there for several years. You have to think that coaching the Florida Mariners to a World Series win is a lot more fun than coaching the New York Yankees to a World Series win, one is a challenge, the other is a foregone conclusion given the resources at your disposal.

And you are assuming that it is not. Much in the same way that you are using something that Brawn had said before, Todt has also stated at one point that he will be stepping down soon, as soon as the end of this season.

Yes, he did. But he wasn't offered to be more than just a head coaching job, was he? He also got back into coaching because he knows that he has one of the best player or players in the game today. What makes you think that Brawn will not be able to do the same with Kimi and others in the future? And by the same token, to win with the Marlins is never the same as to win with the Yankees. We are talking about legendary teams with amazing history here. Like most of the views today, Scott Speed didn't even know Lotus was in F1, do you think that he does not know who Ferrari is before he came to F1? Fact is, none of us knows what Brawn wants and none of us knows what Todt is going to do, offer him his position, his old position as tech director or maybe none at all. However, just the fact that Brawn will think of Ferrari first means something, not only to the team but also to all of the Tifosi around the world. You see, to some, loyalty is considered to be a valued and honorable trait

You are making an assumption. I have not presumed that Brawn has been offered anything - or not offered anything - by Ferrari. I am simply making a prediction on what he will do.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make here, you are rambling and incoherent. How on Earth do Scott Speed and Lotus have any relevance to this discussion? You seem to be spouting stream of consciousness. What on Earth has anything I said got to do with the prestige of working for Ferrari? I am merely offering my opinion on what I think Brawn will do.

It sounds to me like it is you that wants the job with Ferrari. I suggest you go get it before the LSD takes over completely...

there was an interview with Ross in April's Motorsport mag. in it, he said whether he came back would depend on whether there was an opening at Ferrari that suited him. he also talked about how he had been planning this well in advance (a year and a half?) and made sure he had people in place for a smooth transition. i don't think it's that easy to give people the keys to the kingdom, take a year off and then simply come back and take it away.

i think the only job that may make sense would be Jean's, and even that is a bit of a stretch. if he really was coming back to Ferrari, i think they would have planned that in advance and maybe even announced it beforehand. otherwise, why tolerate all the confusion/speculation? i say he's off to new things.

I think that is correct as well. I don't think Ross would come back in any other position but in Todt's. Jean already has huge responsibilities with the Car side, therefore, it is possible for Brawn to replace him. Todt has been in the same role for the last 14 years or so.

I think if Ross went anywhere else it would not only be for the money but the challenge, again to use the Phil Jackson analogy.

Classic transferance, last time I checked, the Mariners are in Seattle and the team down in Florida is named the Marlins. And you accuse me of being on LSD *LOL*

The reason I mentioned Scott Speed and Lotus is to point out to you that winning with a team like Ferrari can not be compared to winning with another. Just like winning with the Yankees can not be compared to winning with the Florida Marlins or Boston Redsox. Lotus was heck of a F1 racing team back in the Collin Chapman days, and with Jim Clark, who has been long considered to be one of the best drivers to ever grace the cockpit of a F1 car. But today, only a few people even know about their existance, let along their place in F1 history. Scott Speed, who is a F1 driver today, being one of them. Another example, how many people today do you think know that there was a F1 title winning team named Tyrell? Bennetton even? Your comparison of winning a title with Ferrari is somehow less glorious or notable than winning a title with the Red Bull team is truly ludicrious, perhaps a dose of Narcan should be phoned in for you.

Another reason why Scott Speed is an idiot, not knowing about Lotus or Maserati when they gave him a car. Jim Clark, IMHO was probably the best GP Driver to sit in a car.

Let's not start on Scott Speed. That boy is way out of his league. Token American that I wish SpeedChannel would stop interviewing. Do they really think we care to listen to someone like him just because he's American?

Like it makes a difference...

You can't be serious. Winning a championship with a team that is already on top is not even remotely close to the achievement of building up a mediocre team to championship status. Your statement is completely ridiculous.

Judging by your posts, you are talking your position. You are infatuated with the aura of Ferrari and you think everyone is (or should be). You are not thinking about things from Brawn's position. He is a sportsman first and I seriously doubt that he is going to allow some infantile infatuation to dictate his career path instead of his ambition and personal goals. If he goes to Ferrari, it will be because he sees a challenge for himself, not because he jerks off at night to his 308GTS poster on his bedroom wall as it appear some here do...

Talking about yourself again I see. FYI, too much information to share with the rest of us here on the forum. Remember, like your mother told you before, you will go blind if you keep on doing it. But we all know that you can never resist a good threesome with the Senna poster and the 308GTS poster you have on the wall of your bedroom, over your parent's garage. And it doesn't make it safe just because you are wearing the Senna replica helmet.

At least a mid-tier team with potential if not one of the top teams. The question is, which team principle is willing to step down and let him take over. IMHO, it is more likely for Todt to step down and move up in the corporate ladder than Ron Dennis stepping away, especially not with Alonso and Hamilton driving for him. Maybe to Renault or BMW if offered the job, or to Honda or Toyota for the money?

We will just have to wait and see in July. I have a feeling that Schumacher's role within the Ferrari organization will be further defined around that time as well.

But, would Ferrari even take him back? Sure they had a close relationship but if they are WCC and WDC this year then i don't think they (Ferrari) would really see the need to have him back (especially his salary -maybe). Then again, if they were to have him back then, that could give Todt the freedom to focus on the "CEO" aspect of things at Ferrari.... .02

I think they would. He is one of the best in the business and is certainly familiar with Ferrari and winning. Remember, he is only taking a sabbatical not retiring so I expect him to come back next year to some team.

IIRC, I think Ferrari has two people doing Brawn's job at this time, one on the engineering front and the other on the tactical front. Ross Brawn has proven that he is one of the best in F1, by having him back not only means that it will strength the team but at the same time, take away the threat of having Brawn with another team.
