So, those of you with show cars, garage queens, trophy winners - how much did you spend, and how long did it take? Let's define 'detail' as more than the "I rinsed my car on Sunday and waxed it at halftime" kind of deal... assume wash, clay, mask, polish, buff, finishing, engine bay, interior, wheels, etc.
I detail my own 360 Modena ZAINO about 20 coats now. Great products. Car looks better than new for sure. Do interior 2 times a year with Pinacle. Buzz 2006 Caddy CTS-V 2005 Harley Ultra Glide
Buzz, Bring the car to our local DerbyQ! Info here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146253 BT
Can we edit the poll? How about adding a "I dont own a Ferrari and therefore dont need to vote but would like to see the results without voting falsely and skewing the results for everyone else" catagory.
I'd also like to know. I was quoted $2500+ to have my car done by the guy who detailed the 288 GTO in the Bella Italia event here in San Diego. It seemed beyond insane. But, inquiring minds want to know...
I have a great detailer here in Tucson...he usually charges about $250-$350 for a complete detail (takes him about 8 hours). He is extremely thorough and does a ton of research before he even shows up. For example, he called a couple of dealers about the stock wheels on the F430 to make sure he was clear on how they are painted and sealed. Did the same kind of research on the leather used by Ferrari. He's been detailing high-end cars since he was in his teens and has worked as a product tester/developer for Adam's (they make detailing products).
Zero, unless you count the supplies, fuel, and time if you're the one doing the detailing. It gets upwards in a hurry.
When you get into the rare Concours cars that show up at Pebble Beach etc., it's not unusual for owners to have their cars detailed to the tune of 5 figures.
Ive paid in the 5 figure range for a detail but it was part of a charity/ benefit... there is a guy who demands between 1500-3000 for a complete detail depending on value of car.. he is in Europe and is always booked from all over western and eastern europe... plane transport not incl in price...
two time platinum at regional FCA events and nominated for FCA PA-NJ best of show along with a ton of other concours events. total paid to date for detailing. ZERO I have a random orbital, and patience, and q-tips, etc, etc. I do it myself. Although I am considering having a detailer do it this time. 1st time in 4 years. Looks like that will cost about $250.00
$100.00 and he spends about 5 hours for a full detail including interior conditioning. I could not do a better job if I did it myself. He is a one man show but I can't complain he takes good care of my cars. Sounds like people gettting hit with the "ferrari" premium" detail.
No such thing as a "Ferrari" premium to do it properly takes a good amount of time and investment in proper tools, training and equipment and insurance coverage. It is not just a glorified wash and grease up the interior
I own a detail shop and I charge the same price to detail a ferrari as a taurus as long as the car is in good shape. It does involve some more work. Generally, the cooler a car looks, the harder it is to detail. Concourse level work is a different story and pricing varies greatly by what the customer expects. Paying thousands is ridiculous. The guy on the youtube video has mastered the art of marketing. A $6000 can of wax? It lasts as long as the sealant we use for $90 a gallon. I watched his video and his process is similar to the one used by my detail techs. Somehow he has figured out how to get 10 times what we can. I guess its all in how you sell it.
I pay $200 each for the Range Rovers (acres of sheet metal....I can't do it myself) to be fully detailed twice a year with Zaino products. I do the 330GTC and the 914/6 myself....I consider a day doing the cars to be therapy. Since I use my brain (allegedly) to make a living, actually accomplishing with my hands that I can see the results, is necessary to my sanity. Jack
I have been detailing professionaly, and on the side. I have seen that video. I do some of the same things as him. Laugh all you want, but i use Suave Ph balance shampoo for the car. Same crap he uses and pays more for. I love it better then regular car soap. if it cuts grease on your hair, and doesnt destroy your skin, its perfect for a car. I notice it cleans better as well. Clay brick of course no use of the special spray, I grab warm water with the same soap and use that. It doesnt swirl paint nearly as much nor mar it up any. if swirls from washing are bad, I use random orbial sander with 2500 grit wet foam pads, then 4000 over that wet foam paded paper. then hit it right quick with a buffer with some black pear compounds. Saves time doing this method. I dont sand every car cause it wears clear down. I use all natural degreasers, special blends of my own (sorry its a secret lol) cleans well. I had a client that loved my detailing that he paid me double of what he would pay the shop i worked for to detail his super cars. Sadly he is in jail for fraud. So had to find work else where. All i say is black cars suck LOL
