No, it doesn't need to be:

    F355 Spider: s/n range 101143-116812
    355 F1 Spider: s/n range 109391-117040
    F355 Series Fiorano: s/n range 115426-116810

In the 1999 Ferrari Yearbook there is picture of (what is quoted) the very last F355 rolling of the production line, a US model yellow on black Spider. Could this be the actual car? Anybody have some info on 117040?

There was 117082 built also. That is the last one I know of... Also 116890 is a Serie Fiorano...Never go by the numbers you get from Ferrari or anywhere else. I found out there is no rhyme or reason as to how Ferrari rolled out cars and plated the VIN's...There do NOT go in order from the factory, like here in the states..

    something to add:

I believe you are talking about US-cars only, don't you?

First US-Spider, Manual was 100986 (Autocheck confirmed), earlier non-US-Spiders are 100221 and 100368.Official last has been 116812, but there are also 117039 and 117082.

117040 is not a Spider but given as the last Berlinetta. 117039 looks like the last US-Spider and, yes, it is Yellow & Black (Autocheck confirmed)

You make this very confusing. I don't care weather they are US, UK or Australian cars..I am trying to locate all the cars, not just US ones...The info I received says 117040 is a Spider, could be wrong. "Official last US Spider 116812" - if the car above is 117039 and a Spider, then what are you talking about??

nothing else than 116812 is named the last Spider by the Factory, what leads us back to the question: How reliable are Factory statements about Serial Numbers. Most of all models have further cars beyond the last "official" number. Looks something like common habbit. There will be a book available soon containing most of the Ferrari Serial Numbers (there are currently 7,687 numbers for 355s in it). If you have a look into it, you'll see what I mean.

True and if I remember correctly 'yellow' hides flaws very well too.... ;)

Yes, from the 355 on down, all v8 f-cars were 'underbraked' in comparison to its model year p-car counterpart :(....

My seats look better than those and I have 5 times the mileage !!!!

You are right! especially if that is honest mileage !

When all is complete--that is my goal. To have a site where valuble info can be accessed by anyone in the world. I also want to add a for sale section and hopefully when Toggie gets caught up with other work he can add the picture uploading feature...

Where can I find this book??:
I suppose in every good bookstore and internet book stores, it will be out in May or June. It will be around 60 $ (in Europe), what's relatively cheap for a book of more than 1,200 pages (but I may be able to provide the books to the FChatters with a small discount or free shipping from Europe if prices are higher than in Europe or having them signed by the author or something like that) and

What exactly does it consist of??:
containing information on more than 110,000 Serial Numbers (including all so called "unused" even-numbers and including all competition cars and Dinos as well)

    It is made by Ferrari??:
no, it's not. I assume, the Factory would never support projects like this. They didn't (more or less) do it with Raab (also he had access to the Factory by his good relationship to Amerigo Manicardi) or Marvin. On the other hand, I suppose none of them ever asked the Factory for support. It's a book that is picking up Raab's quest he took with his Red and Green book. He also was so kind to provide an intrduction.

    I WANT this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:
that's very kind, and even as I'm involved, I suppose, every (FChatters) home should have one, at least as a Coffee Table Book. It emerged from the fact that the market had nothing in stock beyond Raab and Marvin and that it became time to do it again...

Sounds great - Where did the author get all his info?? Do you know if the book will list just serial numbers or have the color, options, etc..
Also when it becomes available could you let us know. It may be hard to find not knowing the exact title or full authors name..

Back to the car at hand...

That "low" mileage has a rancid smell about it. Seat bolsters, tire wear on what looks to be not the first set of tires, and how much wear exists on those brake rotors (ignoring the rust from sitting).

    Approach with caution IMHO.
