thanks, this kit has been discussed at length...personally, i generally dislike 'tack ons' such as that...not cohesive enough... but as far as a light wt 599, it would be wicked if executed properly... a la GT1 racer crossed with CS type car...700hp, 3000lbs, yummy...

Back to topic, yes, a lightweight track version of the 599 would be an amazing idea, the only problem I could stir up would be the weight distribution. It being a front engine car, you can reduce weight everywhere but the engine, which may make it front-heavy and possibly induce understeer. Just a thought.

 

I like the idea. Unfortunately it will probably never happen.

 

it's not really 'front' engine...it actually has rear biased wgt distrib. look at Corvette, or Aston DBR9...both 'front' engine, but massively effective...engines are very far back behind front axle...suspension mounting pts, all revised, etc...understeer, not a big deal there...

 

Heh, if you look at the engine bay the rear 4 cylinders are tucked up under the firewall... Also comparable to an S2000, where the entire engine sits rearward of the front axle (technically making it a mid engined car, but who cares). Still, I'm surprised they tend to be rear-heavy, having the engine ahead of the driver usually means more weight in front regardless of it being pushed back. As for the understeer argument, I do believe I read an article where they said (after testing it on a track) that the 599 GTB did have that tendency, I'll have to cite my sources before it's set in stone though.

Oh well, point null, I don't know enough about the car to really make an argument... Just putting in my 2 uninformed cents.

 

Well I'm sure they will have a LeMans racing version of it like they did for the 575 and 550.

150kg less, maybe some 30-50hp more, a even sportier suspension setup.

The result would be terrific!

 

understeer is engineered into most production cars for safety/more predictable handling (even the 430 is setup for mild understeer)...not necessarily due to the mere placement of engine...lots of things, ie, battery, tranny are place in back, giving weight offset...even though engine is in front of driver, it's not too much of an issue...the relatively light wgt engine (touch less than 500lbs) helps bigtime..and that 80% of the cars weight is in-between the axles, is highly beneficial, allowing 599 superb dynamics.. if taken to GT1 extremes it shows how far front-mid layout can go...front-mid Panoz LMP car showed potential in its day...

 

It sounds like a great idea to me.

Carbon fiber everywhere, a few more HP, some new aero accents (more effective rear diffuser, etc.), and maybe a new weal design would really be cool.

Would be a killer, but probably will never see the light of day, unless someone does the mods to their own car. Custom CF bumpers, seats, interior ect.....

 

My guess:

- we'll eventually see a performance package for the 599, as we did with the 575

- we'll see a full race version of the 599, as we did with the 575

- we'll see a 599 convertible, as we did in the Super America

- we'll never see a stripped down 360 challenge stradale style 599, just as we never saw one for the 575

No chance. Any real high end performance car will simply have better and better F1. I like shifting with a stick but Superfast is truly amazing

 

This will NEVER happen.

Put simply, the buying demographic don't want it in any significant numbers. (otherwise they'd be in Carrera GTs OR are ALREADY in Carrera GTs)

 

In my opinion the 599 is an elegant, fine car, something after the modern style. Kinda whimsical idea, but who knows? ...

they will definately make the race version of the 599 to replace the 550 in lemans,damn i can't wait for that.
