This sucks so bad... I really think they will never allow an event like this ever again.... I guess I can use my money I was saving for a future Gumball on other things...
I have no idea of how strong the anti-car people in the EU are but here in the US it would defiantly be done I would think. Terrible shame and immense stupidity.
Issued by Maximillion Cooper on behalf of The Gumball 3000 Rally - 22.30 CET / 03 May 2007 Following our earlier release reporting yesterday’s accident - As a sign of respect we have decided that this year’s Gumball 3000 Rally will not travel any further and will end in Bratislava this evening, May 3rd 2007. As the organisers of the rally we feel that it should be stopped as a mark of respect to Vladimir Cepulyoski who died today after an accident involving one the participating drivers. We are very saddened by what has happened and feel that it would be wrong to continue. On behalf of Gumball 3000, we once again extend our deepest sympathies to his family and we are doing everything we can for them. This is the first time anything like this has happened in 9 years of travelling through over 40 countries with 1000’s of drivers and it is with deep regret that I make this announcement. And I was just reading this article this morning before I heard about this... http://dir.salon.com/story/people/feature/2002/04/27/race/index.html
WOW, are there any details on the crash. Were they speeding (as all Gumballers usually do) or was it truly an accident. Its bad enough hitting someone but then running afterwards shows no dignity and hopefully they are punished for ruining an otherwise good road rally.
I think it's done forever.... it was never an "otherwise good rally"... it was always a drunken binge partying parade of excess.... It's too bad I never got to go...
Read my entire post, I presumed they were speeding but you never know, there is a blue moon coming up.
I think it's a sign of the times for high powered and fast cars except for places like the track. Be forewarned.
Thats not good . Sadly though I have to agree, some many people have died because of idiots who are not aware of the cars potential and misuse it, ie Malibu Ferrari Guy, actor dude last month, and plenty of others.
I have mixed emotions on this..... on one hand I would love to blast around the globe in an exotic car while seeing other people in exotics doing the same thing..... on the other, there is no excuse for the actions displayed by Morley and Matthew McConville. --chase18303 I had to stop reading this article after a couple of lines....this reporter is oozing tons of negativity, it overclouds any justifiable point she may have had. http://dir.salon.com/story/people/fe...ace/index.html
news reports suggest so http://www.makfax.com.mk/look/novina/article.tpl?IdLanguage=1&IdPublication=2&NrArticle=66001&NrIssue=336&NrSection=10
Exactly. In the unfortunate event that an accident does occur it's now guilty till proven innocent and you can expect to be a lightening rod for law suits or whatever else. It's "drive safe" time more than ever.
I think the Gumball should and will be run in future years. One incident in 9 years does not, in my mind, qualify the event to be cancelled forever. Hopefully, some who participate in the future will learn something from this.
Event organizers need to learn something too, all they plan for in a day is driving, partying, drinking, little sleep, followed by driving. Not having enough sleep and having alcohol in you are 2 of the worst things to do while driving.
This is horrible. My condolences to the family involved. So sad a pair of idiots can ruin it for everyone.
Tragic accident ofcourse. However, I strongly doubt it will stop the Gumball rallye from taking place in coming years.
