Need a diagnostic....F355 spider

    Returning yestderday evening from a charity event and I was getting the air-bag sensor light and my in dash escort was going bonkers. Power on the car began to slowly fade especially when I turned on the a/c. Car began to run rough and sputter, luckily was able to cost as I lost all power and car quit in a Chevron gas station.
    Now it sounds like alterntor but a fellow F-enthusiast believes don't rule out the volt-regulator.

    Does anyone have any other ideas?

    The voltage regulator is IN the alternator. Most times, a "rebuilt" alternator is just an alternator with a new regulator installed. If you are handy, you can easily do it yourself.

    You need to change the diode pack too. Chances are the brushes and bearings are okay. An easy DIY once you get the parts and wrestle the thing out of the car.

    What he said...do a search here and you will find several useful threads on obtaining a new, better quality regulator than the factory oem Nippondenso one.

    I had mine in the 512 rebuilt by the local alternator expert. He actually lives at the junkyard where he works. He thought it was highway robbery to charge $100 (the 512 has a BIG alternator). Works like a charm.

    Check all your connections and voltages. The alternator can stop working because of a wiring issue (no tickle charge to one of the plug leads) and it appears for all the world like it's internal. Have them verify that it is not working, and that it is 100% before putting it back in.
