    I love Ferrari... but, quite honestly, can't afford one. Hell, I may never be able to, but it is a dream...

    We currently have two (wifes 87 and my 92) Vettes (and for some of you who have Vettes, I am known as 'bogus' on corvetteforum.com) and also help run www.c4guru.com.

    I figured I would start by sharing a pic I took at the Long Beach GP last month....

    Yes Welcome realbogus, Why do you say you can't afford one, what type of Ferrari do you have in mind? There's always the right price for the right buyer, it all depends on what you want.

    PS, I drive a Corvette too, a 1999..... I'll be looking to sell it later this year if these f-chat guys don't convince you to buy a Mondial or something instead. :eek:

    What Ferrari? That's a good question.

    I love the 3xx series cars. I would not mind a carb 308, but living in CA, getting those things through smog is tough. Perhaps a 308 QV would be a better option.

    If I had the $$, an F355 would be sweet. I love the newer 360/430 models, too. But I am a stir it myself kinda guy (my 92 Vette is a 6spd) and I would prefer the 6spd over the complexity and expense of the F1 box.

    I have never been a huge fan of the 348, mostly due to the handling rep the early models had, and the overall lack of direction Ferrari was experiencing at the time. However, the later versions are a nice ride - or an earlier one with the suspension upgrades.

    I flat out don't like the Testarossa. It's so blingy 1980s, the H12 is a pig to deal with.... the car is SO wide... ick. I would LOVE a BB512, tho... but again, getting something like that past CARB gets icky.

    I don't even dislike the Mondial. I like the hardtop coupe, myself.

    Then there are vintage Ferrari's that are so cool, that even thinking about them means I am planning on winning the lotto.

    I guess I would like a Ferrari I can care for myself. And simpler is better. The 308/328 lead that pack. And I would rather stay clear of OBDII... just too much info going on.

    Thanks for the props on the pic! It was taking with my old school Nikon FM2 FILM camera. A Vivatar 28-80 zoom. Settings were ~f16, 125th sec, 200 ASA Kodak Gold. The image is from the CD that comes with. If anyone wants more resolution, I have an 11 megapixel negative scanner.

    It's really neat that the group here respects the Vette. It's not perfect (truly, what is?) but it is a nice ride.

    I am partial to the 4th gen... the more I learn about the 5th gen, the more troubling it gets. They are built ok off the line, but their long term is looking suspect. The new Z06 is bad assed, but they are twisting axels, blowing up transmissions and rear ends. A friend has a new C6 coupe - NOT a Z06 - and he has gone through 2 T56s in the last year. He is NOT a racer, either. I would understand it if the car was modded and he spent is weekends at Pomona, but he doesn't. That is NOT good.

    Those tire tracks are either from one of my two agricultural vehicles: my Harley or my John Deere 4020. Probably the JD. :)

    308 QV IS a better choice, I'm not saying this cause I own one, I'm saying this cause according to my personal experience the QV's are very reliable, I never had problem with passing smog, they are cheaper than most F cars, they have as much power as the older carb models, very smooth acceleration, doesn't require engine removal for T-belt change, 308 holds its value preety well, and most of all for me, they just simply look GOOD.

    I've had two Vettes...see profile...and would not mind at all having a 65' or '66 small-block roadster sharing space with the 330 2+2.

    YES! Exactly my thinking. Every so often, a product hits a sweet spot in design and available technology. I have always felt the 92-95 Corvette hit that sweet spot.

    Same with the 84-85 308QV. The 93-94 MR2 Turbo. The 91-94 300ZX-TT

    All cars that did something special with what was available. And looked good doing it.

    The 308 is bad assed. I came close, about 7 years ago, to getting a 1979 308 GTB - carb'd, of course. It had 41k. My only real issue was the colour. It was grey with black. Not a flattering colour, at all. He would let me have it for $29k!!!! A real deal, to be honest... but the repair history was spotty, and my GF just dumped me, so I lost the garage....

    I am not a traditionalist, either. My Ferrari is not going to be red. :) For the 308, does anyone remember the episode of (I hate to say it :D) Magnum, when Robin's nephew visited? He drove a dark green 308. It was kinda like a slate green. I would love to find that colour, or, have one shot that colour. I don't know if it was stock or not. Just different and neat. My other likes would be yellow/black or dark blue/tan.

    BTW, my 92 is Polo Green/Tan. When I went shopping for it, I wanted either the Polo Green/Tan; Black Rose/Grey (if you have never seen black rose, you are missing out. Just lovely. Black base coat with a dark burgundy clear tint); yellow/black. There weren't any blues I really liked of that vintage.

    I've never seen a better picture of an F430 GT Berlinetta. Welcome to the forum. I myself rode in a C4 a couple years ago. That ride was no joke!

    Yes most all of us here have a a lot of respect for Corvette's... we just get a bed rep on Corvette Forum because those guys like to come here and post "Z06 Kills F430" videos just to try and stir us up, then report back to their forum what a bunch of arrogant stuck up pricks we are..... Truth is, if you go through those threads you will find many Ferrari owners also own or have owned Corvette's and love them, and simply state that there is a lot to a Ferrari to justify the higher price than simply a HP number. Either way, they are both great machines and we are all car guys here, so the heck with it all. :)

    Welcome. You need a 328! I had mine out this morning and fell in love with her all over again after a couple of weeks of travel for work.

    Yeah, the group here respects car guys (and girls). But (1) you really can afford a 308 or 328 if you can swing a new Corvette and (2) these cars feel like nothing else on the road. Especially based on your comment about preferring to shift your own gears, you'll go nuts over how involving it is to drive a 308/328.

    Also, the best part is that the cars you mentioned, the 308 and 328, are among the best-looking and easiest to drive (and live with) Ferraris ever made. If money wasn't part of the equation, I wouldn't trade mine even up on 360.

    (I like the TRs more than you do, but a few months back I had my 328 at the shop, parked next to a red Testarossa, and it just wasn't even close. The 328 is the one.)

    With all due respect to the QVs, because they are good cars, consider a 328. The improvements go well beyond cosmetic things like the bumpers and a 30bhp jump. The 328 is the 'sweet spot' for Ferrari, although the 360s seem to be holding up well.
