  1. I have noticed and read that earlier model 348's 89-92 have the lower body painted black. They apparently changed to a mono paint scheme in 93, however I have seen several early models with this lower portion red. Can anyone tell me what the deal is on this? I am interested in an early and one need to know whether this is changed over, (not factory original on the earlier models, and can it hinder/help vehicles value?)
In other words, do you prefer the mono paint scheme... if you had a lower black paint, would you switch it to red?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

It destroys the originality of the car. Does it look better? In my opinion, yes. Will it hurt resale? Doubtful, in fact, it may help it a little. One of these days when there are few nice 348 examples left out there and they are in the same demand as Dinos are today, the remaining 348 owners will be returning their cars to the paint shops in an effort to restore the originality.

When my car gets here, I plan to paint the lower portions red. In my opinion, it looks much better that way. Eventually I'll bolt on some 355 wheels. I know, I modified my Porsche and Corvette too, and pissed off the purists. I'm not a purist and definitely not a concourse weenie.

If not black on the early cars, it is not original, but no big deal, you could get it painted back for less than a grand.

Mine came red, and if it hadent, I would have had it paintet soon after I got it.. Looks much more modern, lower and sexy.

But its kinda fake, the guys in the stock early 348 can be proud.

It's all about what you like - it's your car. I bought my '92ts and love the contrast the black sill and targa top give the car. All red - to much for my taste. As for making the car look lower, I've seen them painted both ways and think the environment the car is in affects that perception more than the paint.
