Do I need two of each for each ECU? or is one enough to find out these codes?

You only need one cable and one push button to download the codes from one ECU. You can swap the parts from one ECU to the other, or install a cable and a pushbutton on each ECU.

But I'm not sure if the ECU in a European market car has the "pigtail" on the harness to plug in the cable and the pushbutton. It would be easy to check and find out. Also, the 2.5 Motronic ECU (as used on the very early cars) does not have the ability to store and download fault codes. You must have the 2.7 Motronic ECU's as used on most 348's.

What Miltonian said, plus you'll need to install bulbs in your CEL areas in your dash pod.

well I have the plugs that they go into. I just dont have the bottons and the cable. but when I was reading some info it made it sound like I have to press both buttons at the same time to get the codes starting, making me think I need two buttons? but you guys are saying 1 is enough?

I dont think I need the CEL lights in the dash do I? Arnt these the slow down 1/4 and 5/8 lights? I see them on startup. Is that enough?

Yes, you need the CEL bulbs. CEL bulbs are different than your SLOW DOWN lights.

Yes, you just press the button on the right side ECU to get the CEL 1/4 error codes. Press the button on the left side ECU to get the CEL 5/8 error codes.

The error codes are "flashed" on your CEL bulbs.

Sorry for dumb questions, are these a standard bulb and where do they go in the dash?

You can remove your two seat belt warning bulbs and pop them into the CEL 1-4 and CEL 5-8 slots behind your dash pod. Won't cost you a penny/Euro.

Dang that's clever. I'm such a dork, I would have driven around town for hours looking for the bulbs. The seatbelt lights are a total waste anyway. Kill the mouse, live happily ever after.

Yes! Kill the mouse (poor Euro/Asia guys won't understand our USA joke, though).

Great price that you've got on the test cable/button. Kudos to Ricambi!

Just before I start hacking my dash apart. Is there anything I should know before I try and pull it apart to replace these bulbs? Any hidden release switch or anything?

"Hacking my dash apart" - goodness, what a thing to say!

It's VERY easy. Just remove the two Phillips screws on the lower edge of the instrument pod, tilt the steering column down, pull the pod up, undo the five multi-pin wiring connectors (each has a push tab to release it), and it's off. Takes less than five minutes.

    Thanks for your help.

I have the dash off now, I pulled the light from the hand brake and but it on the bottom left side(where a white fake light was).

Turned the key to on(where only lights come on but engine does not start). Hold button for 2.5 seconds and got nothing......

    What am I doing wrong?

You know I do everything right.... I think.

I put the hand brake light where the CELs are meant to be, bottom left(5-8). Turn the key to on. Lights come on and go off. Start the car. Lights go off. Push button for 5 seconds and nothing happens.
