    Bravo to you, After owning 5 different Dino's in the past 20 years, and putting 2 of them through total restoration, I have to agree that this is the Mindset to have......pay a little more if you can do it and have the best on the market when you bought it...
    I have to disagree with you on one thing though....if it was a 67 - 71 series 2 XKE.....they do not drive like trucks, I also had a few of those...if it was non power steering, maybe at parking speed the steering wheel was heavy, but to this day it is still one of the fastest lane change cars ever made...they added power steering as an option on the 70 and 71's, which made it even lighter in feel...non power was the way to go!
    If you have the Konis turned up high on either car, you are right, horspower does not matter, the shear thrill of seat of the pants handling is enough!!

    The car sold here yesterday, for $180k +10% buyers premium. Total sales price, $198k.

    More surprising, it was sold to a dealer.

    i have to admit, i was having doubts. the auction tent was fairly subdued. not only few bidders, but most of the maerican stuff was selling at about 80% of the low estimate.

    the paint on the dino was very nice, but was a dark shade of red. not roosa corsa and not rossa rubino. it was almost a blood red, it looked good, but not an original dino color that i am aware of. some moran put scuderia sheilds on the car, yes, stickers, but why?

    the interior looked half original/half redone. personally, i didn't like the look. the new mouse hair was the typical black/blue color and it really didn't add any favors to the car. additionally, the dash had seams and stiching in place it shouldn't (i never figured this out). the steering wheel was original, but the leather was VERY cracked and worn. the seats were in fairly nice shape and so were the carpet.

    mechanically, i can't speak for the car. it did drive across the block with no issues or smoke and i would have to believe the mechanicals are on the up and up.

    all in all, a very nice dino. a very nice price.

    can someone please source some mouse hair that doesn't look this goofy?

    yep, that is one of the things i noticed. the plate that is on the rear wall between the engine compartment and the trunk is missing.

    why would the wrong chassis plate have been placed on the car? factory error?

    no mismatched serial number. the car is 03920. although the firewall plate was missing and the dino registry had a notation about 04920, the car is 03920.

    also, not rm auction. the auction was put on by world wide group. i can't say anything about the rm auction guys as i have never been involved with them. world wide group is a very nicely run auction with silly games or questions.

    The local club had several Ferraris out for a Saturday drive including two F-40s out and two 246 GTS Dinos. We got to talking and found out that more F-40s were produced than 246 GTS cars.

    obviously, this is true, but even i hadn't thought of it in these terms.

    the f40 is a FAR different car, but it makes you realise how small the production number of the dino spyder is

    GTS Dinos are "rare" -- there were what -- 1274 of them made over the years, and how many have gone to that scrapyard in the sky ?

    How many 360s, 430's etc. etc. will be out there? A LOT more. At least 11-12,000 360's (and it seems like every one of them is for sale right now!)

    De Beers will tell you diamonds are rare. Walk into any store in the diamond district in NY or Antwerp, and you'll see how rare they really are.

    What makes something of which there are many "rare" is marketing and hype. Ferrari are champs at this!

    Mike O., just wanted to comment that I totally agree w/ your viewpoint mentioned earlier. For me, Dino is such a special car. The steering, balance, sound, etc. ...one must experience these sensations to fully appreciate the virtues. Even when I compare my Dino w/ my other powerful ones like RUF Turbo R w/ +/-500HP (silly to compare to begin with), Dino's got all these charms and FUN factors. Whether I am cruising down highways at 100mph or driving around town at 35mph, it is such a special, gratifying sensations. Jimmy
