    hello,

been following F1 religously since 1997. i cant recall a season where there was such a long break between races. and only after three races? any thoughts or insight as to why?

Yeah, it's friggin' ridiculous. It's called the "Bernie Bone-Stretcher". He gradually gets the teams accustomed to a longer calendar season, then inserts additional races to fill in the gaps! We may get that Cancun race yet!

Imola has traditionally been the first European race of the season. Due to the facilities, Bernie required upgraded pits, etc to be established in order to race there again. That construction has been well underway and hopefully the San Marino GP will be back in '08. Many folks on here don't like the track, but having been there many, many times it's a terrific place and not at all like the sanitized courses which are appearing on the schedule.

Look at the bright side. It gives the Scuderia time to develop new parts to put them up front.

Let me rephrase that for you "develop new parts to put them EVEN FURTHER up front". :). I am stilled so bored, there is absolutely nothing to do with a gap of a month.

Good riddance to Imola. The old Tamburello was 190mph+ turn, and now what is it? Some boring 2nd gear 70 mph left hander which after completing no doubt leads to other corners of the same speed, with the obligatory chicanes thrown in in the middle of whatever slightly long straights. They completely butchered most of the good tracks the same way after Senna's passing. And now there's nothing to replace them with; couple that with non-exotic, underperforming V8s and F1 should soon be passed by sports car racing.

+1 all of these new regulations in the name of "saftey" are really hurting the sport in my opinion. F1 is supposed to be the pinnicle of racing. Why hinder the development of the cars? I would love to see a no holds bar form of F1 where the big boys go and pull out all of the stops. I say give them a specific wheelbase for the cars and let them go from there. That'd be some pretty exciting racing in my opinion. Obviously, that would also be a very limiting factor, seeing how some teams may not be able to put up the cash for such a series.

Makes ya wonder how folks ever raced 40-50 years ago...

Building cars in a garage ?

Dirving them to the track on an open trailer ??

Mechanics in jeans and T-shirts ???

Drivers and crewman eating sack lunches (if even that) ???

How'd they ever do it ?

Get rid of paddle shifters, computer engine management systems, traction control/'launch' systems, automatic gearboxes, exotic materials, make everything on the car OTC available for a 'correct' price.... I guess we go back to the 60's and early 70's. I'm in.

I don't know about you guys, but if I had a chance to watch Monaco on TV this year, and have Monaco from 30-35 years ago on a competing TV channel at the same exact time, I know what I'd be watching..

Guess we have the same opinions! I too would be watching Monaco from the best times in F1 racing. We were at Monza for the LMS race last month and one of the support races was the CER race - some of the neatest cars from bygone times. Have to give those guys credit for the Lola that was reconstructed with duct tape on the front end - he held third for quite a while but subsequently failed to complete the race. The teenyboppers on here don't have a clue about real racing. The LMS race at Valencia yesterday had 47 cars on the grid (grid size was limited at this race) in four different classes for 1000km . . . .certainly has grabbed my interest whereas F1 has 22, runs for approximately 1hr30 and cars aren't as advanced as the P1's that are running.
