Lets see what the good folks of Ferrari chat can come up with on this...

List you top 5 based on

Beauty, Significance of design/technology advancements, Racing Heritage

Using all of those to pick the five most significant Ferrari RACE cars...

    For example only
1 Phil Hill's Carrera Panamericana Race Car
    2 The 250 GTO
3 Chris Amon's Grand Prix... you know what I am after, some cars are as easily associated with the driver as the team

You get the idea, and please include the reason you have this car on your list....

I tried, but I have no idea about the old race cars.... maybe some of you geezers... (err, More Experienced) members will know. :p :D

In my era of watching races, I'd say the F2004 that completely dominated the whole season.

Phil Hill weighs in with the 315/335S..pretty cars fo' sure.....

    Where you at Keels/Wheels?

My list will be Sports cars not F1

    5) 166MM - has to be on the list winning Le Mans in 1949 and simply gorgeous
    4) 250 GTO - Great history and amazing looking car.
    3) 312 PB - the last Factory team and won every race they competed in wish they would have competed at Le Mans.
    2) 330P4 - cannot think of a sexier shape, the car that ended the GT40 reign and returned the sportscar championship to Ferrari. Only fault is that it never won Le Mans.
    1) 250 LM - the first mid-engined V12 sports car (for Ferrari) originally pinned to race in GT class, but did not pass Homologation rules and had to compete with the Prototypes. Last Ferrari to win Le Mans outright and one the the most beautiful cars ever.

    I don't have 5 but my top 2 are:

    1) 166
I believe it is the only car to win Le Mans, Mille Miglia, and now I can't remember the third major race, TdF, Targa Florio?

    2) F500
Yes it's F2, not F1, but it is the most wining Ferrari ever. I'll check the Ferrari World article about it. But I believe it won every race it entered.

I reread the article. It didn't win every race it entered, but every race in 1952 and it won 6 races out of 8 in 1953. The F2 WC was won in those years.

Regarding the third major race that was won in a 166, it was 24 Hours of Spa.

Just to make a case for the 312PB it won every race it entered in 1972 a total of 10 races, they skipped Le Mans that year.

I would like to nominate the 365 GTB/4 for perhaps the longest competitive life.

It won or placed high at many significant races and came in second OVERALL at Daytona in 1979, 10 years after its introduction. In doing so, it beat all of the Boxers entered by outlasting them.

As the story goes, it could have actually been awarded first overall in that race, as the winning Porsche was not actually running at the end, having crawled over the finish line on its starter motor on the last lap.

Ferrari should have protested, but the car was no longer of interest to them by that time. In fact all of the racing of Daytonas was done by private entrants, as far as I know. See the article on Daytona racing in the latest issue of Forza Magazine.

Daytonas raced in IMSA through 1981. They currently race in the Historic racing series today, as do other old Ferraris.
