I am flying into Chicago for the weekend of May 10-13 and would like to know of some great (but not astronomically priced) restaurants in the downtown area and/or near Millenium Park.

Also, I would like to get in a Cub's game - anyone with season tickets that would like to sell? PM me or email to [email protected] Thanks, Daren

    Tada....

    http://www.bin36.com/restaurant.html

"BIN 36 is open for breakfast lunch and dinner daily and features contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients and wine pairing.
In the evenings, you may dine in either the more casual Tavern dining room or the intimate Cellar. The 50 selection cheese menu is available throughout, as well as a prix fixe Chef's Tasting menu with wine pairings that changes daily"

Park Grill right in Millenium Park. So popular you do need a reservation though.

I've GOTTA try that place one of these days - highly recommended by a number of friends.

If you're out in the Burbs, I Gemelli on Lake St in Addison is excellent for northern Italian.

If you do not have Cubs tix yet, call these guys on the day of the game you want to go to. The Cubs own this broker and I have had good success haggling with them on numberous instances, getting very good seats close to face value right before the game.

Spiaggia is one of my favorites. If you're looking for a good steak, I can't recommend Gibson's enough. Very good. There's a Morton's downtown, but there is no contest. If you want more of a scene, I would check Tavern on Rush. That area really comes alive at night.

I know you didn't ask, but if you like Thai food, you HAVE to try VTK (Vong's Thai Kitchen). It is really great, and reasonably priced.

The Cubs are in Philly that weekend. They have a home game on the 10th, but it's in the afternoon and you probably won't be here in time (game time is 1:20). If you're here, I can get you tickets, just let me know how many.

Not to tempt you to change your plans - but Rick Bayless's Frontera Grill that I mentioned above just won the James Beard award for best restaurant in the United States. Not too freakin' shabby! :)

Seriously? It's good, but best in the US is over-stating things a bit. It's not even the best Mex-influenced in the city of Chicago.

Thanks again to all. We had a great time while there and dinner at Bin36 was very good. Anywhere you can sample 15 cheeses, eat wild boar and drink paired wines is a great place for me. The Cub's game made our Royals games look like a funeral - we had a great time and great weather. Everyone was very nice. We also went to Robie House and Millennium Park, both of which are well worth the time. We did see one silver 360 while on the bridge at Millennium Park on May 11th, just before rush hour. Sounded great through the tunnels. We'll be back.
