Why would someone just give up on replacing the timing belts? I suspect there is more to this Mondial than the seller is admitting.

I agree. He admitted in the ad that the car wasn't running well before he started the belts. But he obviously got in over his head. And he still wants too much money, there's a surprise!

The Ebay seller that claims to have given up mid-T-belt change may have bought the car in hopes that rough-running engine could be easily cured. After investigating he finds that one bank of cylinders are not firing at all. Checks timing belts and finds out one has failed. Lists car saying, "I started to change belts but gave up." One considering this car should verify compression at minimum, but that's not possible until timing belt has been replaced. Better plan on worst case scenario and make an offer accordingly.

I saw this on cars.com and was SOOO tempted. But it's doubtful that I could use this car right now since I have a 8 month old son who I devote most of my free time to. My cousin lent me his 2000 Boxster for the last 4 weeks and I have driven it all of 3 times for a total of 100 miles. I fear that buying a Ferrari would result in the same. Hopefully this turns out to be a good deal for one of the Tifosi on this board!

I've got two emails off to the seller without a reply. It is the weekend however, so maybe I'll get a reply by Monday...

How would the performance of a Euro-spec Mondial 8 compare with a Mondial QV with the 3 liter engine? What difference would there be in horsepower?

I've waited 3 days (since Saturday) for a response from the seller. At this point, I'm going to call "Bogus" on the ebay auction. It might be legitimate, but I'm done wasting my time trying to contact the seller. I hope this doesn't turn out to be some money scam.

As for the Euro Mondial vs a Quattrovalvole - I'm guessing that the QV is going to be faster still. I believe the Euro Mondial 8 makes 215 hp versus 240 for the QV? I'm not sure on the torque numbers though.

good question, the Euro 2v vs the US 4v would probably very similar in performance. the higher compression alone bumps the power up from the US 215hp to where i'm not sure. now against the T forget it the T is much faster, but still not as fast as me :D

Am I correct in my understanding that all euro 308's have a single distributor?

Don't mean to drag this thing to the top, BUT... ... I think this is the car I looked at in 2005 before settling on my QV Cab. I mean, how many other charcoal gray metallic / red interior Mondials are there on L. I.?

    From what I remember:

First, the engine wasn't as greasy/shiny as the pictures show here. Must be that "dressing" spray they use at dealerships.

The drivers door did have a dent that looked like something got wedged in between the hinge side and closed the door, curling out the front edge. Also, there was another dent down lower, IIRC. Looks like it was fixed in these pictures, though.

The drivers side fog light lens was broken.

The car seemed OK mechanically from a passenger's point of view. I didn't feel comfortable test-driving in the heavy traffic but I don't recall hearing any unusual noises and the car seemed tight. Engine idled smooth and revved freely.

The PO was an antiques dealer that had several other cars. He bought this from a fastidious owner but decided that he didn't drive it enough to warrant keeping, he said.

I saw the car listed for sale by a sports car dealership in Southampton NY a couple months later. Guess it didn't sell privately or was put up for consignment or something. Now it's at Gullwing? (again, if it is the same car).

I agree 100% with the comment about the color. It IS VERY sharp! It even received favorable comments by the hotties walking past as I looked at it in the parking lot.

Anyone hear back from the owner of the Euro Mondial 8 on ebay, located in New Mexico? I am finding myself tempted by that one, but I don't want to get caught up in a scam, and it sure seems fishy that the guy doesn't answer emails.

It looks like he broke all of the lenses that are NLA. The sheet metal can be fixed, but strangely those lights might be the real tough part!

I'm refraining from bidding because, as of now it's been 5 days, and the seller has not responded to my 2 emails. I may be wrong, but I smell "scam."
