Where is a source to buy 16" repo wheels for a 308? Also, what tires are best to get with them? Thanks in advance for any help!
I think TRutlands have them and maybe Daniel from Ricambi also may have them.Front tyres can be Bridgestones 225/50/16 and rears 245/45/16.Others may have different combinations. This is what I had on my car but I had difficulties finding the rears and when I did find them they were very expensive so I went for 225/50/16 all round. You might have better luck at finding those tyres in the US though
Oh yeah Superformance also have them but they're in the UK.I'm not sure what the shipping costs would be
It's like $1400 USD and rising. I'm wanting to get those two but wonder about the shipping cost. Trutlands wanted $1700 last time i checked and the company out in San Fran. wanted $1950.
... it can't be as bad as to South Africa. I am also looking to get a set of these, but shipping, import duty, taxes etc come to $1200, that's almost as much as the *&%^$@ rims!
So if it's not the exchange rate it's the taxes and shipping. I'm really getting sick of looking at my 14's though. When they said deals on QV wheels were few and far between the weren't kidding. I've seen one set on here since i've had my car and none on e-bay. The seller wants $2200 or something like that.
I don;t think the shipping from the Uk is all that bad. E-mail Superformance and ask. The repro wheels are cheap enough that you are still getting a good deal. However, $2200 for a set of real Qv wheels is actually a pretty darned good price! If you don't want 'em, post the location because someone else might! Birdman
I havent really looked. The shipping will nail me either way so I was cincentrating on the UK supplier. Do you currently have the 390 mm rims, but are spooked by the Michelin expense and unavailability? I was looking in another thread and see that Dunlop makes a 390 mm tire (a SP2000). Maybe look for those as alternatives to getting a whole new set-up? Dave
Mike - there are about a million threads (about once per fortnight) about alternate 308/328 tires & wheels - including different wheels in various sizes to the 16 in Superformance replicas - try a 'search' - as to the Dunlop 390 mm tyres I'm pretty sure they are only available in Europe (esp Germany) but I'm happy to be corrected
Yeah, but doing a search wouldn't have brought to my attention that rizzo had a set for sale. I did a few searches but I didn't find much. I didn't know to search for Superperformance... I figured that there were more than one brand who made the repos. I was also searching for the word repo and reproduction, not replicas. Search only works so well... Thanks for the thoughts though.
Call around. Quite a few of the site sponsors and other parts purveyors carry the repros from $1700 to $2400 with/without stems & center caps.
I think you will find that the repros all come from Superformance.co.uk regardless of who is selling them in the US. The price difference reflects shipping etc. I think I recall that the wheels are cast in South Africa. To save yourself the shipping and import hassles into US, I would order from a local sponsor. Your time is presumably worth $ as well Gerrit
The so-called "Superformance" wheels (and which I own a set, and really like) are manufactured by KN Alloys in the U.K. This manufacturer's information is stamped onto the back of the wheel spokes. Superformance just happens to be a distributor, but there are others. Point is that it is a bit misleading to continue to refer to these specific wheels as "Superformance" wheels. They are just one vendor. Here's just one example which turned up in a casual search: http://www.tyresave.co.uk/alloyjag.html
I'm happy to be wrong here, but it is my understanding that Superformance basically commissioned the wheels from KN and they are the sole supplier of them. I could be wrong. T Rutlands, for example, buys them from Superformance. If they could be had cheaper from KN directly, I'm sure Rutlands would buy them from KN. Every place that sells them here in the U.S. I believe, buys them from Superformance, so ultimately, they are the "distributor" of the wheels. Birdman
