I hope you find a really good lawyer to get you out of this the best way possible. I wish I knew of one I could recommend but I don't :(. You gotta be really careful out on 684. That's State Trooper haven! Especially in the Brewster area. I got singled out when I had my Camaro on the road. I was taking my friend up to Danbury to check out the progress on his race car and a Trooper pulled us over. I didn't get a ticket but he questioned both of us separately and checked to see if I was carrying anything. I guess he thought we stole the car. I was kind of ticked off about it but I just let it go. Good luck with finding a lawyer.

I did hear of this guy through the forums but I really don't know how good he is or anything.

My suggestion- call the Brewster town hall, find out what law firm the town uses and which lawyer in particular. Call that lawyer- explain situation and ask for a referral to somebody up there with competence and credibility in that court.

Any ideas?? Yes -- Hire a chauffeur. You're going to be without a license for a long time. Maybe we can get you Paris as a cell mate.

But the suggestion I will make seriously is the one that I made when we had dinner up at Lime Rock -- SLOW DOWN! Save the speed for the track. Not an excuse that you were going "with the traffic". You were speeding. If you insist on continuing to drive more than 10 mph over the limit in a car that screams ARREST ME, you are going to keep getting tickets. It's that simple.

'nough said. It's the same lecture I gave my son many years ago. But he took it to heart. It really is the only effective long-term fix for your problem.

thanks matt, ill give him a call now. I called those notspeeding guys and they said 425 and most likely they could get it reduced to a parking ticket.

Thanks, ill def give them a call also, see what they can do.

Thats complete crap. Driving 10-15 mph over shouldnt be a big deal at all. If they didnt have such ***** limits on 4 lane highways I would understand.

One time long ago i did trying driving at or below the speed limit. You want to know what happened? I got pulled over! the guy thought i was drunk because i wasnt driving fast enough. Yeah thats right, pulled over for driving 5 mph under the speed limit. How does that work? Tell me thats fair.

How the hell do you expect someone to creep along at 55 mph for 200 miles. It would take me over 4 hours to get to boston. Total BS i tell you. Highway patrol cars are total dicks on power trips. I wasnt swerving in and out of traffic or anything and there were cars going faster than I was. But i guess the wing on the evo makes my car go 50 mph faster than everyone.

That would be cool if they could get it reduced to a parking ticket or any other non-moving violation which they may be able to do. A lot of the towns in Westchester can be pretty lenient. I got pulled over on westchester ave in W. Harrison once for doing 65mph. Went to court, spoke with the officer before hand (which he told me to come and do) and only paid a $50 fine with no points. I was shocked... and very thankful.

As far as the situation on 684 in Brewster... I seriously feel you were singled out/ profiled. If you weren't switching lanes too much and basically going with the flow, there was no serious reason to pull you over other than the look and stigma of the car. I tried doing the limit once just to see what it was like... I got passed by an old lady in a Camry that was easily going 10-15 mph more than me!

Hey Man - sorry to hear about it. Was is local or state? Do you know which courthouse? I got nabbed there, same speed. My court date wasn't for many months. Prior to actually getting called up, each officer meets with all his marks outside the courtroom for a plea deal. I had a cop friend call the trooper who ticketed me - he called about 10X, the trooper never called back. But when it came time to bargain, he remembered the calls and let me off with a seatbelt ticket. Seems that most of these that weren't gross speeding/dui violations were let off the same way...

Didn't you just come off of a 6 month suspension for speeding? I think he's right, slow down. I've been pulled over for going to slow too, ussually the cop just makes sure you arent drunk, apologizes for wasting your time, and lets you go your way.

I took a speeding ticket on 684 a number of years ago in my then new 99 355 GTS. I might have been going 74 in a 65, and had pulled to the middle lane to avoid a Magoo.
Unfortunately, I was just coming back from a 3 day skip barber course, had a helmet on my passenger seat and race junk sitting on the floor of the car. I didn't even try to argue it....

But, frankly, it was a lame bust.

Hey, do whatever the heck you want. It's your license. And re-read what I wrote. I wasn't suggesting you drive 5 mph UNDER the speed limit. But you need to follow a few basic common sense rules on the highway. First, stay out of the left lane. Go with the flow of the traffic, but not the fastest flow of the traffic, especially if you're driving a "target" car. When I'm in my Corvette on the highway, I stick to the middle lane and take it easy. As long as other folks are passing you, the cops will usually ignore you even if you are 5, 10, even 15 mph over the limit. The point is, don't act in a way that makes you stand out. And driving 80 in the left lane in a car with a big wing makes you stand out.

I hope you get the ticket reduced. But remember, they do look at your driving abstract when making those decisions. If you've got a clean record for the last 3 years or more, they will generally cut you a break. Bad driving record, the chances of being cut a really good break go way down. Perhaps if you get a good local lawyer you can get lucky on this one, but I won't bet my lunch money on it. And remember, as long as you keep pushing the envelope on the highway, this is going to keep happening to you.

You could really lose your license for 15 over the speed limit in your state?
Troopers in NJ will very rarely even pull you over for 15 over the limit. As long as you are with the flow of traffic, your usually good on the NJ highways.
I would not even think about an attorney for that unless you really are about to lose your license.

Can you make the argument that speeding less than 91mph is not considerd a a violation in NJ

    <snip>
    By NICK CLUNN
    Gannett New Jersey

GALLOWAY - A municipal court judge today found no probable cause for the tickets a private attorney tried to file against the state troopers driving in Gov. Jon Corzine's motorcade during the April 12 crash that nearly killed the governor.

Lawyer Seth Grossman of Somers Point, who is also a part-time radio host, submitted the New Jersey State Police's press release that indicated Corzine's trooper-driven SUV was traveling 91 mph seconds before impact and other media reports about the crash that the judge found contradictory and inaccurate.

Municipal Court Judge Christopher A. Brown said the state is still investigating and that any charges, if they are filed, would come before Superior Court.

"I have confidence ultimately it will be handled appropriately," Brown said.

Grossman filed the charges to comply with the 30-day statute of limitations, but municipal prosecutor Michelle Verno said the state has extended that deadline for one of the troopers.

Leaving court, Grossman said, "I felt if I did not step forward, then we would not know what the judge would do. ... Now we know."

This is the second time in two weeks that a citizen complaint stemming from the Corzine crash has appeared before Brown. Mullica resident Larry Angel filed a complaint against Corzine for not wearing his seat belt but withdrew it after the governor publicly apologized.

"It's deja vu all over again," Brown said Thursday.

Corzine was ticketed by the State Police, at his request, and paid a $46 fine.

Corzine's driver that day was Trooper Robert Rasinski. The trail car was driven by State Police Sgt. Jim Ryan, who Corzine credits for protecting him from a nearby fire ignited in the crash by using his body to shield the governor.

Two state-level reviews of the crash are underway. A State Police unit that examines all crashes involving troopers will decide whether the crash was preventable; a second independent panel is looking at the practices of the Executive Protection Unit itself.

Did not mean to infer that it would be....you have an RS4..money should not be an issue...was only warning you up front as a courtesy....provided that you have no other violations on your license...you should be fine...only place where lawyers don;t work is in NYC (5 Boroughs)...they have a no negotiation policy on speeding.

I spoke to a friend of mine.....E-mail me a copy of the ticket.....Can't guarantee you anything, but it would be worth a try......

btw, you happen to be right about the Evo's huge spoiler as the magnet for the ticket. The Captain up there has a WRX with a huge spoiler and all the troopers up there hate him/ bust his chops because of that.
