Practice 1 with 48 minutes remaining - Alonso Hamilton .791 behind Alonso Massa Speed ??? that's a new one! Kimi is currently 8th Should all prove to be interesting. Carol
They're working but you could see it does flex down the straights. Speed isolated two frames and you could see it distinctly lower on the straight. Mark
Those isolated frames could be deceiving because it looked like the wheels on the second were turned to the left much more.
So, where´s Kimi´s supposedly new found qualifyingspeed? Is he saving it untill tomorrow afternoon? Let´s hope so. I am not in the mood for Alonso cleaning up the field in his home race.
Getting a little nervous are you? After the four week tourture I was hoping to see the red cars run away. Let's just keep in mind that is practice and the good guys could be running heavy
i doubt ferrari are scared of alonso's pace. it is friday and i think they were concentrating on race pace and finding the best set up for the car. i dont think we have seen the raw single lap pace from the ferraris yet...
Youtube would be your best bet. Other than that, I think you'll have to wait until tomorrow and see if they show it again during qualifying. Mark
Its a business venture so none of them are scared...I would say they are concerned though as I doubt McLaren has shown their hand as far as single lap speed is concerned either...
Pos No Driver Team Time --------------------------------------- 1 1 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:21.397 2 3 Giancarlo Fisichella Renault 1:21.684 3 4 Heikki Kovalainen Renault 1:21.966 4 5 Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:22.048 5 2 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:22.188 6 6 Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari 1:22.251 7 16 Nico Rosberg Williams-Toyota 1:22.415 8 9 Nick Heidfeld BMW 1:22.543 9 15 Mark Webber Red Bull-Renault 1:22.589 10 19 Scott Speed STR-Ferrari 1:22.617 Very interesting top ten. Can't wait for qualifying!
Here's a drawing of the F2007 with the updates and a time table for Ferrari vs. McLaren (lap by lap) Hi-res. photos comming next in an other thread. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. New front wing. 2. Little hole for the cooling of electronics in the cockpit and the shockabsorbers from the front suspension. Any wind that manages to come to the driver for cooling is good. 3. The little flaps on top of the frontwing have been changed too, they now have tiny vertical fins on the sides of them. 4. The aerodynamically shaped camera's are now positioned higher on the sides of the nosecone (but sometimes there are red fins (the same shape) there instead of the camera's). 5. The boomerang shaped devices are twice as big. The sidepods are a lot smaller and 20 cm shorter. Inside the sidepods the radiators are compacter but provide more pressure. 6. Besides those on the top, there are little gills on the sides of the sidepods too. In total there can be 16 to 20, but this varies from circuit to circuit and depends on the weather circumstances as well. Aerodynamically they are far more efficient from what Ferrari had. 7. The winglets now comprise of two flaps. 8. There's a new engine cover and the end bit could possibly taken off. Not on the picture: some minor changes have been made to the rearwing, reworked barge boards, a new floor + updates to the diffuser, new suspensions with different geometry, new developed fuel from Shell. +1 The SpeedTV guys seemed to think that Ferrari might be sandbagging - Lets hope so.... [I'm also putting Phil ahead of Kimi at F1 Tipping btw.....] Cheers, Ian
Kimi was running in the 1:20.'s during testing at Barcelona in late April (IIRC). I think most assumed Ferrari would be around .5 secs faster than the field based on those numbers. I think they could be closer to .2-.3 quicker than McLaren when all is said and done, and I agree they are sandbagging.
With credit to Bizi Jones, this loop certainly indicates the wing does indeed flex... http://www.supload.us/free/mclaren(mh).gif/view/
Sandbagging while trying to find the right setup for the weekend ??? I think not. This is more likely the cause of their slower times today than in testing: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=39192 Things could be totally different tomorrow and the race. Hey how bout those Renaults ? Boy did they pull someting out their arse in the last couple of laps.
+1 Unless you're in a dominating position sandbagging is a stupid approach: At some point you have to let the cat out of the sand-bag to find your setup etc.
You can never count a team ran by Flavio out of the running...he seems to know how to get the most out of what he's given...
