State schools are heavily funded from in-state funding, be it taxes, grants etc. Out of state applicants have contributed less to the pot, so they have to pay more. One of my professors told me tuition accounted for less than 25% of the actual cost of my education. State schools are rarely worth the cost of out-of-state tuition unless you live somewhere that has no competitive schools...like West Virginia ;)

So all in WVU is what $23K+- for out of state?

Don't know where you want him to go, but that's not bad. If he likes it there, go for it.

Of course you might want to do a campus tour in February before you decide for sure.

What's PSU main campus for in state, $20K+? West Chester is about $15K a year.

University of Delaware is about $24K for out of state students. Ask me how I know. :D

    dude.

    That's $10K+ per semester. Here's the breakdown.

ESTIMATED room and meal expenses: $7,400
ESTIMATED expenses for books and supplies: $1,360
ESTIMATED expenses for travel and personal supplies: $1,200-2,400

Penn State University Park Tuition $12,851

total is over $24K a year. And that's IN STATE.

Add another $12K for out of state.

PSU is one of the MOST expensive State University systems in the US. Probably top 5.

Don't forget MSU! My tuition is roughly $32,000 next year. Whoopee! ;)

I just keep telling myself it will all be worth it someday.

Well said Dave! Just to compare lamour. I go to St. Joseph's University as you know and we are now pushing $40k a year. Tuition for business is $28K then Room/board/meal and you are looking at just under $40 k. The tuition is almost the cheap part! They nail you for everything else ontop of that. Oh and St. Joe's anyway has gone up 2-3% a year in other words another $1500+ each year that adds up too over 4 years.
