Spanish GP *** SPOILERS***

The problem with Kimi's car was really disappointing, but I guess it had to happen some time. For the second race in a row, Massa took total control of the race and never looked back. It was really nice to see him that happy after he got out of the car. Let's just hope Ferrari can sort out the problem that Kimi's car had and make a good rebound for Monaco. Kimi is due a win.

 

the points system is as such, it can allow the 'lesser' driver/team to hang in there, and given enough of those, despite not winning any races, can still end up the #1 when pts are added up.... it's good and bad, this system...

 

Massa did exactly what i would expect...he has a top car, start out front and win the dang race! shut the door on Alonso early, showed ballz on his part, and took the win...Now, for Kimi, that result was just harsh, he could've pushed for 2nd... need to get his car sorted ASAP, let him wring it out to the max... just a bit bumbed that Ferrari has lost more ground in the WCC...

 

It prevents a championship from being clinched early in the season like Michael did a few years ago. I actually like the current points-system. It awards consistency and good performance. It's not his fault Kimi and Felipe each have a DNF this season and his teammate places behind him along with getting passed on the outside by a BMW. It will work itself out after the season wraps up. It's too early to start complaining about it because 1 DNF in 25% of your season thus far.

 

Consistency is the key not a win every now and then . . . this is true in so many competitive events.

FWIW, I think Lewis would've already won a race if McLaren gave him a lighter fuel load. He could've possibly been in P1 after turn 1 (in at least one of the past 3 races) and would've had a nice chance at a win. So far, he's getting the heavier fuel load because he's their #2 driver.

 

Great job by Massa...too bad about KR but he'll come around; I think at worse he would have at least gotten third but don't forget that we are less than 25% of the way through the season so there's lots of time left.

Speaking of time, Alonso better STFU ASAP because he's being schooled by his rookie teammate, who just happens to be a British driver on a British team. Psychologically it will take its toll on FA and the whininess will continue to get worse.

Nice to see LH's brother there.

I do agree that MS would be leading the WDC.

Damn I wish more teams were in the hunt......

I know that...but hell Phil's has 3 straight poles, won 2 of the first 4 races and 2 fastest laps...Maybe the FIA should revisit points for poles and fast laps ? Hammy wouldn't be leading in the old days when they did.

Also I stand corrected as LH did have a fastest lap in Malaysia.

 

Maybe they should change the points system to how it was a few years ago, 10pts 1st, 6pts 2nd.

Hence the race was a disappointment just slightly sweetened by Massa's win I wonder if Ferrari protests the wing now..



Edit - the race results that is The race itself (or at least most of it - ending was a bit calmer) was quite an event

 

I would think that Ferrari will wait to see if another team files a protest, or save the protest for a time later in the season that will make more of a difference.

On the other hand, not protesting could open the door for Ferrari to bring back their own flexable spoiler that "does not flex". At that point, Ron Dennis would not have a complaint without shooting himself in the foot.

 

Why are you knocking the guy for being consistant and finishing on the podium every race? He reminds me a bit of Prost who didn't have to win and run over people to take a WDC like Senna, MS, and some others.

 

WTG Massa! In ideal conditions the kid is really holding his own. Bad luck for KR, hopefully he gets some breaks soon.

 

It was great to see Massa so excited about his win.

Lewis continues to be the real deal and a gentleman.

Alonso has continued to take over JP Montoya's position as Chief Whiner.

Watching Speed TV I have an almost irresistible urge to do a perfect push-up.

And will somebody give that kid ordering a burger and fries in the drive-thru some extra napkins.

Except for the start, it was a boring race IMHO.

Ferrari has to get both cars on the podium...this is not a news flash.

Not knocking Hammy. Knocking the point system that was manipulated several years ago to stop MS from clinching the WDC by mid-season.

Hammy has been the most consistent so far this year in term of race results. It is obvious the system clearly favors consistency over speed. For good or for bad. Phil has been the fastest with 3 poles,2 wins and 2 fastest laps but he's third. Hammy has 1 fastest lap, 3 2nd's and a 3rd and leads. Albeit not by much but he does. Racing is about speed and consistency. IMHO F1 currently does not reward enough for speed other than if you win when you start from pole.

 

I just want to know --- who did Nick annoy in the pit crew? Can you believe that circus on his pit stop?

Speed channel announced that it wasn't a "spare" wheel nut that was stopped by Pele in the Toyota pits, but his real wheel nut. How the heck could he make a lap without the wheel nut?

How in the name of Foobar T Fudpucker could they tell him to go out and do a lap without one?

He was leading the race when he came into the pits. And wound up back in 15th.

I haven't seen a pit stop that fouled up since a newbie team only brought out three tires. (Was that Toyota, in their early days?)

But speaking of early days: SA have a point with last year's Honda, and Honda still has goose-egg.

Somebody please show Alonso turn two from his on-board camera. With some coaching, maybe he'll learn to lose gracefully. It looks like he's going to get a lot of practice, this year.

But I can imagine what people would be saying if it was Massa that wound up in the gravel at turn two, trying the move that Alonso tried.

That's an improvement for Massa -- not getting intimidated. But all his wins have been from pole. Of course, if he keeps taking every pole, he won't really have to pass front runners.

Trulli out on fuel pressure after a sixth place qual? And eight total retirements? Apparently, the teams didn't spend the last four weeks on reliability. Button tail-ending Rubens? That long break appears to have disrupted the focus of the teams and drivers. Bad, Bernie, Bad.

And what's with Speed channel going to commercial whenever the pit crews come out? "While we were away, a race happened."

 

IMO, I don't think there should be any reward for fastest lap or qualifying. I much rather see someone who is in the top 5 in every race win the WDC than someone who wins 2/3rd of the races and DNFs in all the others.
